here is what i have tried and worked around in that write up on sleep issues.

step 1) USB KB and Ps/2 Mouse

step 2) configured as per document for hybrid mode (also tried sleep)

step 3) BIOS set to s3

C:\Users\htpc>powercfg -a
The following sleep states are available on this system: Standby ( S3 ) Hibernat
e Hybrid Sleep
The following sleep states are not available on this system:
Standby (S1)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.
Standby (S2)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

step 4) C:\Users\htpc>powercfg -devicequery wake_armed

Standard PS/2 Keyboard
HID-compliant mouse
High Definition Audio Controller (001)

step 5)disbaled wake from sleep

step 6) screen saver set to none

step 7) startup items have no effect disabling them, so they
are not causing the issue

step 8) windows update disabled, MCE update disabled, dvdfab and all other update software disabled

step 9) sidebar has been disabled

Hardware
------------------------------------------
m3n78-emh-hdmi - bios 5.07
graphics 175.19 WHQL
hdmi 1.0000.0025 WHQL
chipset nvidia nforce 18.11 WHQL
4 gig ram (all the same spec)
vista 64 ultimate

Noteable BIOS configs:
--------------------------
suspend mode (s3 only)
ACPI 2.0 support (enabled)
ACPI APIC support (enable)
Power on by PCI device (disable)
Power on by ring (disable)
Power on by PS/2 KB / mouse (disable)
Power on by RTC alarm (disable)

Any help would greatly be appreciated, it is driving my nuts. It is the only issue i have left with the HTPC.. blu ray and everything else works like a charm!!

i guess i better tell you the symtoms..... if the pc goes to sleep by itself and i wake it it wakes up fine...

however for some reason if i leave it over night and try to wake it the next day, the system will lock up coming out of sleep. The power light will be on full, and nothing.. fans spin up and then it sits there. I have to pull the power out, and then i see the pc saying it is resuming, or sometimes it tells me pc was not shut down properly etc etc

Just out of curiosity, how long have you let it sit there trying to wake up?

I too have had a similar problem with sleep mode on my comuter. It had only done it a couple of times in about a years time. What I did when my locked up like that was hit the windows start button on the keyboard. After doing that, computer came back online and started working fine. I have still yet to find what caused the problem in the first place.

Just out of curiosity, how long have you let it sit there trying to wake up?

if i leave it about say less than 30 mins about it has gone to sleep it wakes up fine......... however if goes longer than that the problem occurs on wakeup.

I have even tried extending the delay in which it will go back to sleep after unattended wake ups.

In the BIOS i have no voltage settings for memory or cpu which i would rather set rather than the motherboard auto detecting. Does anyone know if there is a button press or sequence you can get these optiosn on the motherboard i own ? AS i would like to see if it is a voltage issue coming out of sleep etc etc.

ok update i have found memory oprion of hard coding voltage. set this to the 1066 value of datasheet spec removintg the "auto detection". Will post updates if this works or not.

can't find CPU voltage setting anywhere.
