Solved Defrag Question

Larry D

Power User
Hello all, My first post here. I have my defrag set (not to run on a schedule) . After i defrag and check back it always tells me file system performance can be improved no matter how often i defrag. Is this normal? Thanks for any replys.

Hello Larry,

Yes, this can be normal. The Vista Disk Defragmenter only runs slowly in the background while the computer is idle or at low use. It may just not be finished yet when you run it next. That or you are saving/installing and deleting a lot of files/programs.

You might find the free program Auslogics Disk Defrag much easier to work with.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hello Larry,

Welcome to the forums, please excuse me for this, I don't mean to hijack your thread at all, but rather than start a new one, I was wondering about this, and thinking that is it wise to have two defrag programs? I mean does the Vista built in one know not to defrag when, say, you have used the auslogics one?

If you should only have one defrag program, how do you dsiable the Vista built in one?

My apologies to you Larry :)

Jekyll you can uncheck the scheduler for the defrag and also you can delete the task in the Task Scheduler.
