Hello Southlander, and welcome to Vista Forums.
It looks like you may have used the improper method for XP to remove the shortcut arrow in VIsta. You will just need to restore the shortcut arrow from the link posted by mansrm81 above, then you can remove it with same program if you like.

Many programs do this and uninstalling them no help.By using Vista Shortcut Overlay Manager disable arrows by icons and enable arrows again.southlander01 said:

I've tried Vista Shortcut Overlay Manager and several "Tweak" programs. Sadly none have worked. I have no icon problems, just hate those arrows. Short of messing with the registry are there any other options?

Hello Flavius,
That's the improper XP method, that can cause the shortcut icons to have a blank icon instead. I would not recommend to use that one in Vista.

Hello Nsbjsn, and welcome to Vista Forums.
You might see if right clicking on the Vista Shortcut Overlay Manager shortcut and clicking on Run as administrator will allow it to work properly afterwards to remove the arrow.

It will work only if you have Blanc.ico file in C:\Windows,but Blank.ico is non-system file -not everybody have this file.Probably this file comes from Vista Shortcut Manager and in my opinion it will work only if you have already this program.But if you don't have and you never had this trik won't work

It's been tested and Geek approved in 32-bit and 64-bit Vista and Windows 7 with only using what is in the ZIP folder in STEP TWO.
The blank icon in shell.32.dll is for the whole icon I believe instead of just the shortcut arrow overlay on the icon.
