Cleaning up Vista Initial Install

Vista Peeps:

Just bought a laptop from Best Buy - Pentium Dual Core, 3GB, 250GB HDD, etc. plus a Free Agent Extreme External HDD - all for under $500!

One thing that bugs me - Best Buy wanted to charge me $65 bucks to "clean up" the basic Vista installation - they said this clean up will clear the drive of unwanted "adverts" and optimize the computer for how I want to use it.

Does anyone know what they are talking about? Is the initial install of Vista bloated with adware? Is there any utility to do this clean up myself?

You can go through the add/remove programs list and remove programs you dont want. Yes there will be adverts if you bought from bestbuy. I dont think most of the "crap" is that bad or taking up that much space. A lot of the stuff is just links to websites to download stuff. Atleast thats the way it was with my laptop.

good luck, have fun

You have a laptop with quite reasonable specs, there is no need to pay $65 to clean it up and you can use that money to upgrade your memory if you want.
There are several instructions in the Tutorials section of this forum for optimizing your laptop.
