If you can open Task manager with Ctrl+Alt+Del (or Ctrl+Shift+Esc), what happens if you click on the "new task" button in the lower right corner on the applications tab and type explorer.exe and enter - do you get explorer to run? --ch

Hi kiddieboy,

If you can get into Safe Mode, check that your administrator accounts have full control of the drive.

Right click on the Vista drive and select Properties then click the Security Tab

First we need to diagnose the problem properly.Maybe there's bad sectors or the windows registry is corrupt.Have you tried reinstalling windows? Also have you tried using CHKDSK.I you cant run CHKDSK from within windows you may need a vista repair disk to use command prompt, which brings me to another point.Follow this tutorial and repair windows.

If you cant you may want to read this article

Hope it helps:D:D:D:D

Just sharing my experiance with this problem and the solution *in my case*

I was trying to switch hardrives for my C: partition and ran into the same problem. It boots fine but after logging in it says is setting up my profile, and loads a blank screen.

From task manager I was able to start up explorer.exe, it wasnt able to find my profile and lots of things clearly didnt load correctly but it did load the most important stuff. I looked at my computer and found that my C: and D: second hd) were backwards? I reset my computer and loaded a bootable cd but the partition manager I was working with was still telling me that my drive letters were correct.

Following parts of a different post, I restarted windows, ran regedit.exe and removed all entries under HKey_Local_Machine\System\MountedDevices\

When I restarted my computer everything was fixed, the table was rebuilt correctly and my C: drive was identified correctly.

I know the thread hasn't had any activity in a LONG time. but I needs some help and am seriously at a lost. I backed up my system with Norton Ghost 15 so i could reconfigure my drive from a Raid 0 to a JBOD array. ran the restore and i couldn't load into windows it would just stay on the post screen. I went back to the raid 0 array and restored again. its still stuck on the post screen. ran the 7 ult repair and if found a problem and fixed it but still doesn't load. tried a fixmbr and fixboot in command prompt with bootrec.exe. it finally loaded into windows now when i log into my profile it starts preparing the desktop and then gives a blue screen that has no system tray or icons or desktop. on the bottom right it says Windows 7, Build 7600, This copt of windows is not genuine. I tried loading into safe mode and i got DISK BOOT FAILURE, PLEASE INSERT THE SYSTEM DESK AND PRESS ENTER.

Any thoughts on how to fix this???

Check the dive letter in the o/s registry is the same as it was originally ( It was originally C probably ).

If it's different , change it back to it's original letter.

Easiest way to do that is with http://www.paragon-software.com/home/rk-express/

Boot it up, select Normal Mode>Boot corrector>Search for Windows installations> correct drive letters in system registry.
