Error message with nothing to really go on

We just got this laptop on Sunday. Its brand new! We haven't removed anything from it and the only thing we've added to it is Microsoft Office and the internet connection. Starting Monday, however, when we turn on the laptop, we get this error message: Cannot find 'file:///'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct.

The only thing I could think of was to check what my homepage was set to. Its set for yahoo.com so I don't see how that would cause this error message. Any ideas on how to get rid of this error?

Assuming the error message only pops up once after you log on, and that it appears harmless in the sense that once you dismiss the error dialog (once) you can contine to use the machine with no obvious similar symptoms, it's possible that there's something in your profile which is invoking a command line that's being interpreted as a slash (/).

If you log on as a different user, does the same error occur?

How about if you log on in safe mode (press F8 during startup)?

A few more questions:
Did the store that you purchased it from do anything to it before you brought it home?
How do you connect to the internet? Is it wired, wireless, or with an Air Card?
Do you have a modem and a router, or a combination unit that combines both functions.

On some laptops there's a switch to turn on the wireless - is that on?
On other laptops there's a key combination to turn it on - is that on?
Also, some laptops use connection software to manage the connection, have you tried looking for that to see if the Radio is on there?
Finally, have you right clicked on the network icon (in the system tray down near the time) and selected "connect to a network"? If so, what results do you get?

H2SO4-I know the error message isn't causing any harm (at least that I can see) and it does go away if I click 'ok' and then I can go about my business. My issue is that it was a day out of the box and I already have an error message that I can't identify or seem to fix. :(

usasma-The store didn't do a thing to the computer. It was an unopened box when we brought it home. You'll have to forgive me, I'm not that great with computers. We connect to the internet with Comcast, so its got the modem. I'm not sure what a router is but if its the box that Comcast attached to the cable that leads from the wall to the computer then we have that. :) The wireless is turned off, I saw nothing about a key combo anywhere in the setup directions and I'm honestly not sure how to check for the Radio you mentioned. If I check the network it says that the computer is connected to network 2 and cannot find any other available networks.

I really need to learn more about this stuff. Eesh. :p
