Contiuning from my topic: Hi new to the forums just saying hi! (Also fixed my problem being stuck at the blue/green screen while making a new fresh install.)

Well I first signed up because I have was having install problems. When it got to the blue/green screen it wouldnt do anything. But what do u know.. right when I was typing this it starts to load and Im now on my way installing windows vista 64 bit! :) (cause I just recently bought 8gb of memory)

Well... I guess I would explain my story since Im a newbie... and something for you guys to read..

Well my computer really needed a new HDD because for some reason my old one would always get curupted after like so many months... about 2-3 months? I was wow **** this. I wasnt sure why it was doing this. But my computer was only on a surge so I think maybe a couple power outages ****ed it up. (I already fixed that problem though, just bought a battery from newegg.com, when I bought more things, like my new hdd, memory, mouse and mouse pad.)

Ok so finally my memory and windows vista x64 bit dvd came into the mail. As soon as I got em... I installed the memory then I wanted to upgrade my version of windows xp 32bit (I must say a really good OS at the moment, till when windows 7 comes out)

So I tried just throwing in the cd and found out I couldnt upgrade that way. Because I got an error that said "somethin, cant remember the full message but bascially because I couldnt run 64bit dvd when I have 32bit" so no biggie right?

Then I was like ok well I can just install it by booting up. I got passed the part that said "Now loading windows vista files" alright not bad... so far so good. But damn I was wrong when I got to the blue/green background. I noticed the dvd wasn't spinning my computer was just sitting there. It was frozen though since I could still move the mouse. So I was like oh man... cmon vista... Well I waited a little bit not to much though cause I think it should just pop up and start working. It wasnt doing that so I knew something was wrong.

So I was like I had to use google. Thank god for google.com. I type in like "Windows Vista hangs on blue/green screen. Found nothing but junk for awhile. Then finally some guy posted and was like... I updated my bios and it worked then. Well I just got the new hdd and had to reinstall windows xp 32 bit. But I didn't update my bios. I mean... who usually does that you know?

So I was like ok I could troubleshoot my computer by doing that. So I go to the EVGA motherboard bio updates... Went through the set on how to do it by using my computer's desktop part. So I did all the steps and I updated succesfully! :)

Ok, so I was like ok, this gotta work now... please god help me. I throw the DVD back in my drive... rebooted the system... then I got to the blue/green screen once again where the mouse is up..

I waited about tens mins. No luck...

So I was like GOD DAMMIT gotta go to work. So I finally got some time to myself to try it again.. While at work I put my windows xp 32 bit cd in so I could format my HDD so nothing was on it.

Once I got back home... from work I tried getting it to work again... turn on my PC threw the DVD in my drive restarted my computer so it would boot up to the DVD... got to the blue/green screen!!! I was like please god...work!

I waited like 2mins and the menu part of the install CAME UP! :) (while I was about to post a topic on here, to see if anyone could help me with my vista problem!)

Anyways... I been typing this and on my screen it says "Completing installation..."

So I guess Im all set though. So I guess I wrote a pretty good story.

Im not really sure what helped my problem though, if it was formatting my HDD or updaing my bios. The reason why I wanted to write all this up if anyone had the same problem could kinda take this as help in case.

Anyways, I guess ill start posting a little on the forums since I started this nice beginning of my posts.

Thanks for reading my wall of words by the way!

actually one more question since i never ****ed with 64 bit.

I was wondering since some program arent 64 bit I wanted to know say like AIM. its only 32 bit. Will it still be using all 8gb of ram or what? Whats the advantage of really having a 64 bit program?
