Submenu does not display links

Hello everyone,
I need help. Somehow, the submenu in the Start menu, where the shutdown/restart links are, doesn’t display the links (illustration is attached). I also have the same problem with the Quick Launch; when I click on the arrow to expand more icons, the submenu come up showing only a vague outline of the submenu box and no list. However, when I turn on my computer under Safe mode, the submenu is actually working fine and is showing all the links. For now, I just do Ctrl-Alt-Del to restart or shutdown. Everything else seemed to work alright. I have Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 32bit.

Have you checked the settings for your links in the Start Menu? (located in Control Panel, Taskbar and Start Menu, Start Menu, Customize) There, for most of the items, you can choose to either display them as a link or to display them as a menu. Even if your settings are as you wish, it may help to unset one or more of them, shut down, re-boot, and then re-set them. Sometimes, just the act of changing a setting, then shutting down and rebooting is enough to correct a corruption -- if that's what is causing the problem. At least it's a good basic place to start.

Did you post this problem the other day? (in another forum) someone the other day had the same problem.

I only ask so I stop searching to see they found an answer.

before this happened, had you been in msconfig changing any settings around?

Is your right click context showing up?

no, it wasn't me. However, i just found out what cause my computer from displaying the links. It was actually the McAfee Total Proctection that I downloaded the other days and so I uninstalled it and everything came back to normal now.

Darn! Anti virus programs/apps cause so many conflicts!!! Often it's Norton, but it can be any of them.
