Solved URGENT, vista completely broken!!

So this started a few weeks ago, I got a nasty virus on my computer and pretty much lost the ability to start my default browser (firefox) and everytime I tried to re-download firefox or any other new program I simply couldnt run it, my pc kept asking me to open it w/ something else.

I backed up all my important files and decided to reformat my HD but when I got to step 2 i kept getting an error code - 0x8007045D. So I couldnt reformat my emachines computer.

After some playing around with the reformatting window (from the cd emachines sent me) I think I really messed up my HD, because now it no longer is able to find 'Vista'

Now when i restart Vista I get the dreaded "bootmgr missing, press ctrl+alt+delete to restart"


PLEASE PLEASE help a newbie. thank you and god bless.

hey guys so a few things.. i tried the command prompt idea and after typing "bcdedit/exportC:\BCD_Backup", I get this message, "unknown command was specified"

barefoot kid: when i boot from the cd I get this screen...

I don't understand this ...


When you boot the disk select your language then select repair, then it "searches" for Vista to repair, it doesn't "find" Vista?

thats correct, initially it was able to find it, but i think during my 'tinkering' i may have hit the 'reformat' button for my hd, AND NOW it cant find 'vista'

i try to get into safe mode but in order to do that i need to press F8. and all i get upon startup is bootmgr missing, press ctrl,alt,dlete

Do you know anyone that will let you use their Vista install disk to re-install Vista, if so you would use the install key on the sticker attached to your PC for the install.

I wrote this a while back for HP machines, see if it works for you, yours may use a different F key; take your time and try and re-try several different F keys, it may be worth your time and effort.

HP Recovery Center

Be advised that this will take the machine back to the point when you first took it of the box.

The "HP Recovery Center" will give you the option to send to backup anything you
don't want to lose, so have backup media available to use if you choose this option.

With the machine off press the power button, as soon as you do that start tapping the F11 key.

It may take several attempts to do this, if the first attempt fails, try again.
That should take you to the HP Recovery Center. When there just follow the prompts.

It is pretty much self explanatory. From the time you boot into F11 (not counting
any backups you choose to make) you should be back on a working desktop in about
30 minutes. After it restarts just follow the prompts again to finish the process.

If your first option is system restore select no, which should take you to system recovery.
You want to try system recovery not system restore, unless you have good restore points!

Yes if it works you'll be using the built in "Recovery Partition" that may have been added by the manufacturer to re-install Vista to factory settings.

dude!!! I don't know what happened but i kept trying the f11 trick and it FINALLY worked, i kept tinkering around and now I have a brand new hd (hopefully)... Its like starting from scratch (thank god i backed everything up)
