Disk Read Error Occurred

Yeah I know, there have been plenty of threads about this subject made in the past, and I have read most of them but none of the solutions listed did not fix my problem so if someone could try to help me that would be appreciated.

So yeah, basically here's the Info:

My laptop was running fine this morning until my sister came in and being pissed at me, she aggresively pressed a lot of keys and shut down the comp (using the On/Off Button).

Then when I tried to turn it on again I get
" A Disk Read Error Occurred
Press CTRL+Alt+Del to restart".

I have tried the following:

1. Put in the recovery disk, and it did not read it, the following Error Came up:

" Windows Boot Manager

Info: Windows encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to
your computer. This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage
device while the device is in use.

Status: 0xc00000e9 "

2. Accessed BIOS and tried to "Load Setup Defaults" and then changed the Boot order to

1. HDD
2. CD/DVD
3. FDD
4. LAN
5. USB Memory

And no difference, still didn't work.

So yeah, none of the above has worked and so I don't really know what to do.
I really need the information on my Hard Drive by tonight/tomorrow morning if Possible.

Thanks so much guys :x

How aggressive was she? Perhaps she used enough force to loosen or unplug some of the connections - like the ones to your hard drive and/or your DVD drive - or even loosen the RAM chips. You may need to check these items (there isn't much more you can check conveniently on a laptop). But try the System Restore and Startup Repair options first as they are more likely to succeed and much less difficult than removing and re-installing devices on a laptop.

If that isn't the issue and System Restore doesn't work, then use the disk to try a Startup Repair. Here's the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/91467-startup-repair.html.

If that too does not work, here's how to fix the MBR (which would be the next logical step):

To run the Bootrec.exe tool, you must start Windows RE. To do this, follow these steps: (you need a Vista Installation Disk to do this)

1. Put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2. Press a key when you are prompted.
3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.
4. Click Repair your computer.
5. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
7. Type Bootrec.exe, and then press ENTER.

Note If rebuilding the BCD does not resolve the startup issue, you can export and delete the BCD, and then run this option again. By doing this, you make sure that the BCD is completely rebuilt. To do this, type the following commands at the Windows RE command prompt:

 bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
 c:
 cd boot
 attrib bcd -s -h -r
 ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
bootrec /RebuildBcd

If you don't have the disk, try EasyBCD http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1 and see if that helps resolve the problem.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

Think I said that when I put in the disc, it wont load, and stated the error above, but thank you.

And @ Lorien, She came in and just both hands, slammed the keyboard and then shut it off.

And I'll try what you guys told me in a minute, thank you :x

Edit: How do you go to repair your Bcd? I am looking at the command prompt now.

I will assume that you mean drive. Choose the drive that the OS is on. Unless you have some fancy configuration it should be C:

Choosing the C drive, nothing happens, like when you click on it then you cant go inside the drive and nor can you do anything with it really. Am I to assume this means that the hard drive is dead?

I dont think that what your Sis did could make a hard drive permanently fail. As Lorien mentioned, earlier, a connection is probably lose. You may have to check all conncections; possibly going inside and making sure everything is seated properly. The ram chips and the hard drive itself are the most likely suspects.
