Mouse cursor becomes "sticky" on right top of screen

Hello all,

I just made a fresh install of Vista Home Premium 64bit, installed all updates and essential programs like MS Office. However, now the mouse cursor becomes smooth/deaccelerated when I move it to very right top of screen (about 1/2 inch from the right border and just a millimeter from the top border).

While this seems to be the problem only with the Logitech G9 laser mouse (no matter if the drivers are installed or not), I can also sense some small slow down with my Microsoft Optical Mouse 3000.

A few months ago I made a similar Vista re-install (with the same set-up and programs) without any problems.

Hi veksi,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

In addition to the above, do you have another computer to which you can attach the mouse and see if the problem occurs there (i.e., moves with the mouse) or if the mouse works fine on the other computer? This will help us greatly as it will pretty much define whether the problem is the mouse or the computer - so we know where to focus our attention.

Also, if it is a USB mouse as I suspect, try using a different USB port on the computer - the problem may be with the port and this will rule that out.

Thanks and good luck!

Thanks for your answers rich and Lorien! Much appreciated.

In Safe Mode the mouse worked perfectly, but with clean boot the problem still occurred: I disabled all services even including the Windows ones. I also tried all USB ports without luck.

I tested the mouse with other PC (Vista 32bit) and it worked just fine. Keep in mind that the problem also occurs with other mouse (Microsoft 3000), although not that badly.

I will probably re-install Vista again tonight and see what happens.

Sorry that I've not replied in a while. I eventually reinstalled Vista and the cursor worked fine until I installed the newest Catalyst drivers (10.12) for my graphics card HD4890. So I'll be heading to AMD forums for now...

Thanks anyway for your help!

Hi veksi,

It does indeed sound like the newest Catalyst drivers (10.12) for your graphics card HD4890 are causing the problem (perhaps some type of conflict or the drivers aren't made for Vista but only W7 or don't work with that type of pointing device). In any event, I think you're going to the right place for answers. Maybe the short-term answer (until they fix the problem or provide an answer to the problem) is to go back to the prior version of the drivers where things were fine (unless you have a good reason to do/need the upgrade).

Good luck and best wishes.
