Solved Lost Vista Disc

My computer has been running into issues, the problems are too abundant to mention. On top of that I only have about 24 gigs left. I really don't care what I loose, I barely use anything on my computer at the moment except for a few things, but i'm too lazy to delete the stuff I don't use. So I figured formatting my hard drive would be the best way, or to reinstall vista. I'm running Vista business, and I installed it from xp using a certain CD wich I seem to have misplaced (it's somewhere in this clutter of a room). But anyway, I have a product key, it's on a sticker on my pc, I just don't have the CD. There's no recovery partition on my computer, and it seemed the only way to fix it the last time was with the CD that came with the computer. Which I lost. So my question is, would it be okay to download a copy of Vista business 32 bit (the one I have right now) using not so legal methods, as long as I didn't crack it and I use my own key that was used once already to install Vista?

Another question, is there any other solution to get rid of all my files, and start with no programs installed, a clean desktop, and a factory installed vista?

First legal or not dont download from the net. You will get the OS and a lot more, that you do not want
Call the company that sold you the computer or MS and for cost (about $25.00) you can get a DVD
In Lieu of that borrow from a friend
In lieu of that borrow from an enemy, but dont download.

If you are taking the KEY from the computer, you had an OEM DVD. May be best to get another from the computer mfg.

I can not strongly agree with Rich enough on this one. Downloading a copy will just cause more problems than it is worth. If you can get a disk from the manafacturer then that would be your best option. They should do a recovery CD for your make and model.

First, glad that you are up and running, but we are not wrong. You took a chance and may have won this time. Then again you may be back a few weeks from now saying that you are having problems (I hope not). I hope that the copy was legal and that you do not get any surprises. If you did not get it from a reputable source, I would download malwarebytes run a full scan as well as an antivirus scan.
Take care and good luck.

Hi gotxbrains,

You may have installed and may even have successfully activated, but do you have a genuine advantage validated copy? You can go here: Before Posting a Question, Please Follow These Instructions and download the validation tool and confirm Vista is genuine. If not, you will be unable to install certain updates (i.e., there will be limitations).

Good luck!
