Solved .gif not shown in IE8.

Hi to everyone who reads this.

I have a problem with some pictures on webpages that uses the .gif extension.
I only see the .gif icon but not the picture. (See screenshot 1.)
And when I right click on it and choose "Show Pictures" it doesn't help either.

There are a few things I tried so far but unfortunatly they didn't resolve my issue.
- IE Options --> Advanced --> I checked the "Show Pictures"
- IE Alt Menu Image/Picture --> Coding --> I selected "Auto Select"
- In the Extensions Folder --> .gif is associated with IE.

And now I'm out of options, so I return to this forum to be helped by people with more knowledge than me.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to cure this problem, thank you.

Best regards Carlo

Hi guys

I followed both suggestions and I didn't have to change anything because they were all fine as they were, so neither of those two suggestions helped really.

In vain I added the .gif in the MIME section of my AV Webguard as allowed.
Meanwhile I looked at other .gif pictures on the net and I saw in the Property settings that they were all digital signed, and the one I was looking for wasn't.
So I guess it has something to do with the Security settings of IE, that blocks execution of ActiveX etc. without the right conditions.

One should think that a christmas card (.gif I wanted to see) from my ISP provider would be sufficient to cope with basic security parameters...
Happy Holidays Telenet.be, and without being cynical; to you also guys.

Does it work with another broswer? You can test, Chrome and Firefox would be nice choices.
How about another user account?

Hi

Thanks for the quick reply.

Lorien, I red the article and tried it out, but with that particular .gif (Xmas card) it didn't help. What I've done is; I did a local search *.gif and randomly took some pictures with .gif icon and clicked it. Everyone of them I could see in IE, so there is definitely a problem with that Xmas card.

So the steps you provided earlier were ok, its just that damned Xmas card that kept me (and you guys) busy all afternoon, sorry for that, I didn't know it was corrupted.

If you have some time left, can you take a look at the other thread I started:
http://www.vistax64.com/general-discussion/286138-driver-icon-not-refreshed.html#post1307768
- I did the sfc scan, no help.
- System Restore is out of the question because I deleted all but the last one only yesterday.
- Did a clean boot with no results.
My guess is its a registry setting that prevents Explorer from refreshing/unloading correctly.
To be not misunderstood, I can hit the F5 and see the refresh blink, only the icon is still there. The main problem with that is when I want to install a game and it exists of two images I need to mount the first one and after a while I need to mount the second one. And it is here that I experience that specific problem, because I can't unload ISO1, I can't mount ISO2.
Hence I can't continue with the install of that game.

Thanks guys for the help so far!!

Best regards Carlo

No problem, it happens. Glad it is resolved and not a real issue.

Please post that other information about the other issue in the proper thread and someone will reply to it - perhaps me, perhaps someone else - but if you leave it here it will be lost and people in that thread will not reply as they will think you are still working on it. As I recall, I did reply to that thread but my suggestion didn't work and the last person to suggest something was Richard. I'll keep my eye on it and reply if I have something to add that seems like it will help.

I will request this thread be marked as solved.

Thanks!
