PreS: i am sorry for that wall of text. i have written this text in the official logitech forums. i dont know if extern links are allowed here, but i will post it for the sake of being easier to read. if its not allowed, i will remove it! http://forums.logitech.com/t5/G-series-Gaming-Mice/G5-does-not-react-since-win7/td-p/673084

hello! i am the owner of a G5 for 3 years. it worked perfectly fine with XP32 bit, and worked fine with Vista 64 bit, but since im having windows 7 64-bit, im getting random freezes. its kind of hard to specify the problem. ill do my best: most of the times, when i boot up (for example. it does ALSO happen RANDOMLY all the time in normal use. while surfing, gaming etc.), the task bar, and the buttons on it, wont work. by wont work, i mean that they dont even get highlighted when i hover over them, and, of course, do not react when i click. not only the buttons, but the whole taskbar is not clickable! i am still capable of dragging squares on the desktop, and can even rightclick it to get the menu! the problem will NOT go away by itself. i have to press ctrl+alt+del, then click on task manager TWICE (the task manager button does NOT get highlighted right away when i hover over it. i have to click it once, then it gets highlighted and selectable for the second click). i start the task manager, close it and the system works fine again for a random amount of time. sometimes it buggs out again right away, sometimes it works for an hour. when im in the browser when it happens, im getting the "scroll symbol" (this does NOT always happen. most of the time, the buttons just wont react,i can still work in the firefox.), that u get when u press the mwheel! when im playing a game, the command that the mwheel would usually execute is permanently executed! it seems like the mwheel button is permanently spammed, but it is, of course, not. when i still had setpoint installed, i thought i could solve the issue by just unbinding the mwheel button completely, but to no success. the unbound button still seemed to cause the problem, so its not hardware bug (i could confirm that recently when i tested out the system with my old mouseman dual optical, the problem still occured. i couldnt test out with a mouse from another brand). i have reinstalled the OS twice with complete formatting! RIGHT NOW WHILE IM WRITING THIS: in firefox, on top right, i can NOT click on the minimize, fullscreen or close symbol. (it does not even get highlighted, and can NOT be clicked). the problem persists for over a minute now and will not go away by itself! i cant click or anything, just on those 3 symbols! the taskbar does not react again! i can switch tabs with leftclicks in firefox though. there is no flash or anything special open in any of the tabs. i can go to desktop by windowsbutton+D, but i CAN NOT drag squares on the desktop, and can NOT maximize firefox again by leftclicking it on the taskbar. i can only get back in by alt+tabbing to it! i did now press ctrl+alt+del again and did the taskmgr clicking twice, now it works again! My specs: Logitech G5 (blue-black back) Asus P5Q-PRO ATI radeon 4800HD Samsung F1 Intel quad core Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit newest catalyst drivers realtek HD audio driver intel chipset driver there is almost no software installed: kaspersky internet security 2012 Moz Thunderbird 6.0 Firefox 6.0 Ultramon i have described the problem very well now. i have googled for hours, but only found people with the same problem, but not a single solution! PLEASE help me. i am very desperate and sure im not the only person with that problem! edit: while i was reading this over the 3rd time, the symbols on top right of firefox did not react. but the taskbar did react. i just minimized and maximized firefox, and it worked again. serveral seconds later the problem occured again, i fixed with stated method and it hasnt occured since then (25s). its completely random .. edit2: eventlog had the following error on 18:17 (an hour ago): Ereignisfilter mit Abfrage "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" konnte im Namespace "//./root/CIMV2" nicht reaktiviert werden aufgrund des Fehlers 0x80041003. Ereignisse können nicht durch diesen Filter geschickt werden, bis dieses Problem gelöst ist. i apologize for the german, but it should be obvious what it says :smileywink: the last sentence means: Events can not be sent trough that filter, until this problem is solved.

Okay, let's give this a go then :)

Have you always had this problem with Windows x64? And have you had any problems with viruses in the past?

i did not have the problem with win vista home premium 64 bit, but i had it after i upgraded to win7 using the upgrade function, it persisted when i formated everything and reinstalled it, and persisted when i did the same thing again (yesterday i did format again!). so its not the 64 bit, but windows 7

i am not having problems with viruses and did never have any on this computer for the past 3 years!

Sorry, I miswrote that last post, I meant Windows 7 x64 :) But you answered me anyway so it doesn't matter

Good, that saves me a job

Does these problems occur when the mouse is not plugged in?

Tom

P.S. Your English is very good!

i am not sure how i am supposed to hover over the minimize button or the "x" or the taskbar with no mouse plugged in!;) its a desktop, not a laptop btw. i have tried, as mentioned, plugging in a different mouse (mouseman dual optical), and the problem did still occur. thanks for the compliment on my english!

th4nir

ps: the problem is, as stated, very hard to replicate. it has now not occured for about 45 minutes. so i can only change something, and then use the computer the normal way for a while and see if the problem is gone!

i would love to get my hands on a razer to test if its logitec or windows. i can only imagine firefox:/ i disabled all add ons excet ABP and noscript

big edit: i did just test. i pressed my middle mousebutton and kept it pressed. when i have it pressed, the minimize maximize and close symbols, and the taskbar including its symbols, is not highlightable/clickable. but the tabs in firefox are highlightable even with the middle mouse button pressed. so the problem is that the middle mousebutton is permanently pressed, sometimes, but no always i can even fix it by manipulating the middle mousebutton

My Computer

That's excellent news  Well fingers crossed and hopefully it will stay like that. I suggest making a system restore point now, naming it fix mouse or something just in case the problem comes back

Welcome
Once you are up and working properly, make another restore point for the future. More importantly, you should back up your entire OS on an external hard drive. You can use Macrium to perform the task
Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download
Keeep the back up current. In the case of further problems, in the future, it will be easy to fix.
