Mouse and keyboard freeze

I can't make paragraphs on this phone but I will try to simplify this. Basically my boyfriend's computer is running Vista Ultimate [safe mode because of a BSOD I'm working on fixing]. When I start the computer the keyboard works fine. Once I get to the log on screen both the mouse and keyboard freeze. I have tried plugging and unplugging them, shutting down, restarting, and so on. I am going to post any specs I can find for the system [by searching BIOS setup], mouse, and keyboard below.

This is everything I could find... ---The mouse is a Xenix it has a blue light inside and a fan. The keyboard says Gateway 2000. ---The processor is an AMD Athlon 64, the CPU ID is 0F48, the processor speed is 2000 MHz and the clock speed is 200 MHz. ---Installed Memory is 1536 MB, the Model Name is GA-K8NP, the BIOS part number is 6A61CGOA, and the BIOS Version is F13.

Welcome

Here are my solutions to freezing, and an excellent article, which I hope is of some help
Go to search type device manager and look for any yellow warning markers
Download and run malwarebytes, a full scan after you update
Run antivirus scan
Check memory with memtest86
Make sure that you are not over heating.
Try in safe mode; report back if it works properly.
Try a clean boot
Make sure PSU is working properly
If overclocking, restore to original
Test hard drive at company website.
Test in safe mode, does it still happen?
Try with clean boot..

The freezing can be related to the BSOD, after that is fixed we may know more.

I have used a clean boot before in response to the BSOD and it did work other than no internet access. ---But unfortunately I can't use any part of the computer after booting, as soon as the login screen loads the keyboard and mouse freeze and I can't fix them. I can't log in at all. Anything past the "boot options" can't be accessed.

There also no system restore points :(

I have tried booting in safe mode both with and without networking support. I have also booted in Debugging Mode. None of them work. ---At this point I think the only way to fix this is with a Vista CD :( I've never seen this happen before. --- I will save those links next time I get to a computer. I appreciate your help. :)

Okay I got a different mouse and keyboard they work fine. The computer no longer connects to the net. it says "limited connectivity" and I can't diagnose in safe mode. The modem has all green lights and I've tried restarting it several times with no effect... ---I will reboot with the last good configuration.

The configuration is no good I still have the BSOD. ---I can't find anything called Memtest on his computer [[I have now downloaded the new version and I'm going to try it out 9-8-11]]. I did find "Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool". ---In Device Manager I have warnings for: one "unknown device".. COM1 and COM2 because "its configuration information in the registry is incomplete or damaged".... and one storage controller called "AHTMGE9V IDE Controller" because "Windows can not load the device driver for this hardware". ---I can't check for solutions because the internet doesn't work. I will Google these problems and wait for a reply on this forum.

@Richc Okay I downloaded some of that stuff onto my USB drive and I will try it out. The article was good, hopefully I can nudge him toward clearing out some of the stuff he has on his C drive because it has almost no free space at all. Thanks :)

I have windows Ultimate myself and I get a counterfiet screen pop up because an ding bat installed 7 for me and now its a illegal copy so I been getting errors myself. So I was thinking if the copy of windows was from a torrent download?? I will get my help in another thread.

BTW Hello to free Brink Tom and all the rest of my old pals.

Maybe I suggest opening up Virtual Memory, I opened like 6 extra gigs so I can run my programs ok.These Guys will explain Virtual Memory better.
