Problem Accessing Desktop Folders when using Internal HD as External on a Vista CPU

My computer has a boot BCD Error and won't load up. So the first thing I chose to do was to remove the hard drive and use it as a slave/external on two seperate computers. One was a Vista and one was a Windows 7 cpu. For some reason the drive has the right Space Used/Space Free Ratio, which shows my files are still in there somewhere.....but I can't seem to access any of the file/folders on my desktop (which basically consists of everything I was to transfer and backup.

How can I find these files? Are they hidden, are they deleted? Is their any way of retrieving them? If so how?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Not sure what you're doing with that hard drive. If you install it via a USB connection and power to another computer and reboot so that the BIOS knows its there, you ought to be able to see the contents of the disc from the functioning hard drive.

Im trying to take the contents off of it and put them on an external HD as a backup. Just in case the original computer can't be fixed, and might need a clean recovery process.

I made a mistake in my post. I meant to say SATA cable, not USB,Sorry about that.

If you download easeus partition master and click on a partition, it will let you explore the partition. As I understand it, you can't see the files. This program will also repair the mbr.

also, if you can find an old copy of easy bcd, you can repair the bcd.

The hard drive is not SATA however, so what would be the need to get it, and would it be compatible?

By exploring the partition with EASEUS Partion Master, will I actually be able to see the files at that point?

Thanks

I guess it's IDE so a SATA cable obviously wouldn't work.

I can't guarantee that EaseUS will work but it's free so no harm in trying it. It's a very useful tool that I was directed to, here in the forum, when the MBR on my hard drive got corrupted while uninstalling SP1.
