    Vista Superfetch

Hello everyone. I'm Ed, and after playing around with win 7,10,and linux, I'm back on windows Vista.
It's faster on my aging HW,and I'm free of the nagging about win 10. And it just works.

My question is about Superfetch. I like the idea of caching in memory, using that Ram for something. What I dont like is ,and this is the only flaw I found to Vista, the HDD trashing.
It's trashing my HDD for 2 days now. It will eventually stop or not ?
Would I see a big performance hit over time,if I keep it OFF ?

I experimented with Superfetch off,and the trashing stop imediatelly ,but the apps and the bootup take somewhat longer.
Thanks, and its great to be here

I prefer to leave Prefetching on (as it really does speed up boot and application load times, but turn off Superfetch.

Now for Prefetching to work, the Superfetch service needs to be on. Did you disable the service, or did you disable Superfetch in the registry?

I disabled the service . Can I keep the prefetch feature on,and if so..how ? Thank you
PS: I only want 'STABLE' solutions ,please, since this will be a production machine (saying cause I know registry tricks arent that 100% sure, usually

Oh no worries, this is stable and proven. Now turn the Superfetch service back on and leave it set to Automatic. Afterwards, go to regedit. Then navigate to this key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters

Now leave the key EnablePrefetcher at "3". Next, change the value of EnableSuperfetch to "0" (that's zero). Now close regedit, and restart Vista.

Did it. I'll watch its behavior for a day or two.
If everything is ok, I'll mark it solved
    Thank you !
