I get an unknown device warning in my device manager. It is for my graphics card. I click reinstall driver. It finds the driver but says it encounters a problem when installing. Its says: Nvidia GeForce 9200M GS access denied. I downloaded new drivers from Nvidia, installed them, restarted, no good. Tried uninstalling the device, restarting, installing driver = no good. Any thoughts?

Hi Panzer 25, if you right click on your driver installer and select properties then general tab is there an option to "unblock" ? if there isnt this isnt the problem otherwise all i can suggest is downloading the latest HP distributed driver as they are modified to suit your machine HP Support & Drivers i know with my laptop i have had trouble with Nvidea drivers & always had to use the HP distributed ones

If you dicide to go with the Hp drivers download the Chipset & Graphics drivers & save to your desktop

Disable your resident protection (antivirus etc)

Uninstall your graphics driver first & reboot

Then your chipset driver & reboot

Then install chipset driver first & reboot

Then your grapics driver second & reboot

Renable your Resident protection

(When running the installers right click on them & select Run as Administrator)

I hope this is of some help

The chipset drivers, are they under device manager/system devices?
I see:
Intel ICH9 Family PCI Express Root Port 1....6
Also same thing but w/ Interface controller and another Thermal Subsystem

Uninstall them from the add/remove programs in the control panel
click on Nvidea drivers and just uninstall chipset & graphics dont worry about any others

Remember Uninstall-Chipset last
Inatall-Chipset first

Uninstalled NVIDIA from the control panel, but there was just one program -no separate chipset and driver. Restarted then installed HP version of NVIDIA driver and chip set. No improvement and no change.

I am experiencing exactly the same problem. I have a Dell Studio XPS 13 (M1340) laptop with nVidia M9500 video card. The card and display were working (some minor flicker when connected to external monitor). I then executed a Windows Update. As that completed there was a blue screen and restart. After that, the nVidia diappeared from the device manager and only turns up as "Unknown Device."

Attempts to uninstall and re-install the driver have all failed, even using the drivers on the Dell CD that came with the susyem (the laptop is only 2 weeks old). Sometimes I receive the error message that the driver installed failed because "Access Denied." I even went back and did a system restore to the date just before the windows update. Still no change.

I also followed the advice given above. I too had no option to remove the nVidia chipset drivers, just the display drivers.

Tried hidden admin account with no luck. Went into safe mode, deleted the driver, wet into regular login, let it automatically install.... It worked!
