I recently went from Office 2003 to Office 2007. Everything works fine with the exception of Outlook. When I ever I open Outlook I get the following error message. I installed Office 2007 SP1 and still no joy. I can open outlook 2007 in safe mode, but that's about it.

Anybody out there have any other suggestions?

Presumably you've got an add-on which is misbehaving. I don't know how to simply list all Outlook add-ons, but if you can think of anything you installed (fancy formatting, database tools, non-standard server connectors...) removing it in safe mode would probably allow you to start in normal mode afterwards.

Otherwise, it's possible to troubleshoot further but you'd have to be willing to follow some fairly esoteric instructions and to report back with the results. Interested?

Next time just use the Office 2007 uninstaller and it gives you the option to repair Office....

That works, but you could just run the Microsoft Office Diagnostics program...

1- Open any office app - Word, Excel, PowerPoint. For example - Word
2- Click the Office button in the upper left hand corner
3- Click Word Options (If you'd of opened Excel, it would be Excel Options)
4- Click Resources
5- Then next to run Microsoft Office Diagnostics click Diagnose

This will run a diagnostic on "ALL" the office programs and attempt to repair/fix any problems found.

I ran the Ofice diagonistics program as well ran the repair Office option from the installation Disk. SEVERAL times. I also installed SP1. I got no Joy.

The last resort was to uninstall and reinstall. That fixed it. I suspect I probably
should have done a clean install from the beginning rather than trying to upgrade
from a previous version of Office (2003). My experience over the years has taught me that MS products don't always upgrade as easily as advertised.
I got lazy this time and tried to upgrade Office rather than doing the extra work to do a clean install.

Now I'm back to square one. The only difference is my automatic update installed
Office SP1 overnight. Now I'm getting the APPCRASH error again. But I can start
Outlook in Safe mode. Back to the drawing board.

To quote myself from an earlier post:

"Otherwise, it's possible to troubleshoot further but you'd have to be willing to follow some fairly esoteric instructions and to report back with the results. Interested? "

Alright. There's a more deterministic way to troubleshoot crashes and it relies on the collection and analysis of data generated during the crash. In steps:

1) Download the (current version) 32-bit "Debugging Tools for Windows" package from here:
2) Install it to c:\debuggers. You'll have to use the "custom" install option to override the default path.

3) Run c:\debuggers\gflags.exe and go to the "Image File" tab.

4) Type OUTLOOK into the "Image:" box at the top then press the tab key.

5) Tick the "Debugger:" box and type this into the space to the right of it:
c:\debuggers\cdb.exe
6) Accept all that and OK your way out of GFlags.

7) Try to start Outlook. Instead of the normal Outlook window, you should now see a text window with a whole bunch of stuff that ends in a prompt like this:
ntdll!DbgBreakPoint:
00000000`77a64ea0 cc int 3
0:000>
Just type G on that prompt and press enter. Outlook will now continue to initialise.

8) Since it'll presumably crash instead of launching normally, you should eventually see yourself being dumped to a prompt again in that text window. Type this command at the prompt (and don't forget that leading period):
.dump /m c:\debuggers\Dump1.dmp
9) Once you see "dump successfully written", close the text window.

10) Find c:\debuggers\Dump1.dmp, zip it up and upload it here.

The contents of that file may allow one of the regulars here to tell you why Outlook is crashing.

I installed the debugger program, but could never get it to produce the same results you indicated. After I played with it for a while I got busy and did not have time to fool around with it anymore. bottom line I uninstalled Office 2007, reinstalled Office 2003 and everything is working as it did before. When I did a google search on this error I got several hits. I'm curious as to why MS has not released a patch to fix this problem. They don't even address it on their support website. Or if they did I was not able to find it.

So thanks anyway.
