Solved Shared folders Vista with XP with Win 7 solved

I stumbled onto this totally by accident while moving my Public folder to an extended partition/drive I installed.
To make a long story short I went out and bought a new 2TB Seagate BarracudaLP so the rest of the family could DL movies and TV shows they missed or just wanted to save. Just a side note here, it took almost 8 hours to format that new drive with an i7-975 extreme 3.33Ghz and a DX580SO MB 6Gb 1600MHz DDR3 memmory.
I put it in my Vista Ultimate 64 I built last August and set it up as a new drive (F) and moved my entire Public folder to it sharing 2 folders only with the rest of the network. The network consists of 1 win 7 ultimate, 1 winXP home and my Vista 64 Ultimate, and an X-box 360 elite and a PS3.

Anyway for some reason some of the folders listed on the win 7 box in network I couldn't access, and the same with the Vista machine. I had folders on the XP and win 7 machines that I couldn't access. So, I got to poking around and examined the folders that I could access with the ones I couldn't and I noticed something interesting. While comparing the two, the folders I could access and on the other two machines I could access had the same characteristics in that under the folder properties/security tab there was an entry for "everyone" in group or usernames. Similarly the folders that would not allow access from one system to the other had no entry for "everyone" on the security tab under group or user names. I couldn't believe it could be this simple, so I changed the folder properties by adding everyone to the folders that did not have that listed just by hitting the edit button under the group or user name box where it says "to change permissions, click edit. Changed the permissions, what they could and couldn't control, and all the sudden everyone had access to all the folders I changed. Therefore, after making the same changes on the other machines I could access all the shared folders and all the other computers in the house could access mine.

I don't know how many hours I wasted looking for an answer as to why I couldn't access some shared folders on our win 7 from my vista and XP machines and vice versa. I read many a post that said just share the drive or just share the folder, well... it's more than just sharing the drive(not recommended) or just sharing the folder. Hope this helps someone save some of the many hours I spent trying to find the answer to this.
