Solved Remote Desktop, Username or Password incorrect

I have 4 computers in my home network, 2 with Vista ultimate X32 and one XP Pro. Within my own network, I can RD into 2 of them from my Win7 X64 machine. One of the 2 Vista Ultimate machines I cannot get into. I get to the point where It asks for Username and Password, then goes to the next screen and says "Username or Password incorrect". I have searched the web and this forum. I have seen this is a common complaint but have found NO solution, and I have tired all solutions I have read about. Which includes verifying I am putting in the correct username and Password. None have worked. I am what you would call an intermediate user and understand many aspects of a networking and computers but I am now stumped with this problem. I need HELP!

Have you double checked your router access settings for remote access , my router has a setting tab and you can enable remote access or disable. Just wondering. ?

Since I am not using RD from outside my own network port forwarding is not necessary. But, there is some light at the end of the tunnel! I had made some network changes on one of my Vista computers which I have always been able to connect to. I changed it from a static IP address to a dynamic IP address. Well I got the same "username or password are incorrect"! I changed it back to a static address and I could connect. However, I cannot connect by computer name only IP address. However, the static address on the computer in question did not work. So I'm still stumped!

Didn't work. However, I am not having any internet problems. Just one computer refuses any username or password, all others work within my network

Well, dang it.. have you checked in services >. Control panel, Admin Tools. Services. right click to open to run in admin mode. Check is the service for remote sevices. there are several of them that one or more may be somehow disabled ?

I assume you mean on the computer I am trying to connect to. Wife is using it so it is hands off for a while. I'll check to see. I may also try to put myself in as an allowed user. I haven't tried this yet as I already have a user account on that computer. But, I'll try anything to figure it out. I think a lot of people experience the same problem, but I haven't seen any solutions yet.

Well I got it to work. The correct user name was confusing because I had changed the user name but stupid Windows only change the name for some things. And it was not clear what user name to use and Windblows would only suggest 1/2 of the name. In the end I changed the password and deleted the memory of remote desktop logon and put in the full (old) user name and new pass work. FINALLY windblows was happy! I wish Linux would come of age and run any program for any platform, then we wouldn't have to put up with the defective Windblows operating system and stupid Microsoft!

Thanks for posting results. Sometimes it can be something as what you have done, then again, it can be very complicated. Glad you are solved and Thanks for using VistaForums.

My partner decided she wanted to access the PC. Having shown her how to open by clicking on 'Guest' I then wanted to get back to my work which entailed clicking on 'Administrator' and giving a password. I have never had a password as I was the only person using the m/c. What must I do to access my docs. etc? Interestingly, I can access my email a/c by the 'Guest' a/c. Help!. I am new to this forum and not sure how it works but if you have any useful suggestions I would appreciate it if you could send to my email address....... .......thankyou.
