Media Center Continously Launches

I have a one week old Gateway with Home Premium and a Verizon Express Card. As soon as the Express Card was activated in the Verizon store, Media Center launched and continues to launch every 6-20 seconds over any web page. Gateway blamed Verizon. Verizon directed me here to a tutorial to disable Media Center. I disabled all the Media Center files to include: Extender Service, Receiver Service, Scheduler Service, Service Launcher, and Network Sharing Service. I restarted the computer. Media Center still launches! How can this be? I went back and checked each file - sure enough they all show Media Center disabled. Can Vista Home Basic or Vista Business strip out Media Center? I will never use this feature. Short of bringing the computer back to Office Depot, any suggestions? Thanks.

Media Center lives in the c:\windows\ehome\ directory, the main exe is ehshell.exe (or something like that i'm doing this from memory) try renaming ehshell.exe to ehshell1.exe or something, windows might not let you do this but its worth a shot.

So, did that fix the problem? Also, this is pretty much a "kludge," so I'd like to know better what actually caused it... How in the world are the verizon express card and media center related??

I finally got Media Center to quit launching by totally disabling it. The last thing I did to finally turn it off was to go into default programs, custom, and uncheck enable Media Center. Nothing else worked. No one could find the conflicted file.
