Cyberlink BD Solution not working - Help/Advice please

I have recently installed Cyberlink BD Solution on my system to play Blu-ray DVD movies. However after following update instructions, reinstalls, and various other nightmares the problem lies squarely with these set of programmes.
After advice from other fellow members I have a completely clean install of Vista Ultimate x64 SP2 and associated motherboard, sound card, graphics card drivers.
I have reinstalled the BD Solution Disc, and on the first attempt to play a DVD it asked me to update - you have too because it won't do a damn thing unless you do. This I duly did - an 84MB update that would have been quicker to write down and type in than download from Cyberlink. However I have saved it and installed it. Did it help - no. It stopped telling me I needed an update but flagged Error code 8004014. I then went to Cyberlink website to download their BD Advisor which scans your pc to test all the various functions and tell you what is missing or wrong - I passed. Then I went to Cyberlink Vista Ready webpage, downloaded the program and ran the test. Success, apparently the Power2Go was not vista capable (even though on the original CD is clearly stamped Vista Ready). So a free upgrade was available duly downloaded, installed, and ran the Vista Ready check again - passed. Confidence rising again so put DVD back in and hit play - error code 8004014 again. Now I searched Cyberlink site for this error message, and it syas it is a burning error. I have Instantburn loaded as part of the package so I downloaded the latest version and installed that with no problem. Still error 8004014 when DVD played. I then went through each and every programme the Cyberlink CD installed to find latest updates, and believe but not certain by anymeans that I have them installed. The Cyberlink programmes installed are
Instantburn
PowerDVD
PowerDirector
PowerProducer
Power2Go
Finding the correct update for your particular version on Cyberlink isn't very easy hence not 100% sure I have them, but wouldn't be writing this if I knew there was definitely something missing. I have sent e-mail to Cyberlink directly with details, but not hopeful of a resolution that isn't going to cost more money, and if that is what is needed then they aren't going to get it. They owe me for all the grief and heartache they have caused by providing installations that don't work.
So, after all that, and I have read the relevant messages in here that I can find but non specifically seem to address this issue can anybody help me ? Although I believe it to be Cyberlink is it possible that the DVD rental companies have put something on the disc to stop you playing it on a pc in case you copy it ?
