Solved MS Word 2007 “Expert” Need Help!

Imperfect1

Vista Guru
Well guys, I thought I was an MS Word 2007 expert, of sorts, but I’ve got a couple of problems with Word that totally have me stumped!

I have a very large file that I use to keep track of certain important items of text that I download from various websites. I use the Normal template for all my Word docs (set to use the Times New Roman, size 10 font), and have set all of my docs to have single spacing with no extra space before or after paragraphs. I also have my MS Word options, set to "Match the Destination Formatting" in all of the 4 Cut, Copy + Paste settings, so that no matter what size or style of font I cut, it always pastes into my Word doc in Times New Roman size 10 font, exactly one line under the line of text that was there ---- until now.

The first thing that happened was that every time I pasted new text into my Word doc there was an extra line’s worth of space above and below the new text. I tried changing several paragraph spacing options, and I tried changing the Normal template, and I even created a new template with single spacing options, but no matter what I did, MS Word was not heeding my instruction.

Then the second problem happened: MS Word was suddenly not matching the destination font size or style anymore. If the text I was pasting from was a size 14 Verdana font, then instead of the text changing to size 10 Times New Roman when I pasted it into my doc, it remained size 14 Verdana. I went into MS Word Options (in the MS Word Options, Advanced, ‘Cut, Copy + Paste’ section) and changed those options, closed MS Word and rebooted, and then changed them back again but no help. I did this several times, but MS Word is just not following my instructions. In desperation I even did a System Restore to the day before the problem started, but unfortunately, that didn’t help either.

Hi Sue,
This should take care of the second problem
Control the formatting when you paste text - Word - Microsoft Office

Might help with the second problem and the first too
Cleaning Up Pasted Text

EXCELLENT articles Rich, and thank you so much. There was a lot of help for both of my problems, just as you thought. But you'll never guess what one little change actually solved both problems instantly --- As I was reading through the articles I realized that I didn't have this setting checked: In the Word Options, Advanced, Cut, copy + paste section, I needed to click on: "Show paste options button," which had somehow become disabled. Once I clicked on that, Voila! Both problems solved! And I wouldn't have ever picked that up without your articles, so thank you again. Rep+ to you and I wish I could give you more!!!
