Question about Vista MCE and TV Tuner

When I use to own XP MCE, after install, it said that there was no encoder/decoder and MCE would not display a picture on the TV tuner untill I installed a DVDencoder/decoder.

I have now upgraded to Vista Home premium 32bit and was wondering if I had to do the same again?

What TV Tuner do you have and how are you connecting your computer to your TV?

For my Home Premium x32 I did not have to install any encoder, nor did I when it was running MCE 2005.

Its a ProLink PV-B420 Analogue/DVB-T Hybrid. There are no drivers at the mo, so looks like a new one is on the cards(Sorry for the pun)

Its for viewing on my PC, my PC is networked upto my XBox 360

sorry for the thread jack but how can i find my TV tuner because i just got a free laptop from my cousin..it has Windows Vista Home Premium with media center and single tv tuner (doesnt say what kind/brand)...any help?

also, when i tried running the setup on windows media center it couldnt configure my tv signal because i didnt have a live feed from my cable box? so im guessing i need a certain cable to run from the box to my comp, what would this be?

MPEG2 Decoder

When I use to own XP MCE, after install, it said that there was no encoder/decoder and MCE would not display a picture on the TV tuner untill I installed a DVDencoder/decoder.

I have now upgraded to Vista Home premium 32bit and was wondering if I had to do the same again?

Microsoft have decided finally to include an MPEG2 Decoder/Encoder with Media Center editions of Vista. So no you do not need to install an addition decoder. Apparently nVIDIA are saying they will not be releasing a version of PureVideo for Vista which means currently I know of no way to get hardware decoding happening of nVIDIA cards as was available in MCE 2005. Any one have any ideas? Also anyone aware of a better decoder than the included Microsoft one?
