No sound in Windows Vista HELP NEEDED!!!

I have a Vista Business 32bit OS and am hving trouble solving the famous 'no-sound' mystery.
I tried the simplest way of solving it:

1. Downloaded the Realtek AC'97 driver (as guided by some other forum: No sound with Windows Vista)

2. Tried installing by running up 'setup.exe'.

3. All was well till Vista came up with this message:
'Windows can't verify the publisher of this driver software' and had two options:-
-> Don't install this driver software
-> install this driver anyway

I tried using the 2nd option - nothing happened and the same message popped up.
The 1st option obviously quit the installation process.

What do I do? Can anyone please help me on this?? It is frustrating to have a computer without sound and nothing to be done about it..

Thanks!

what is the specs of your machine.. first go on hardware/ devices - see if there is any yellow thingy beside the sound.. if not check if the sound is not set on mute.. by double clicking on the sound icon in your below tool bar..

If nothg happen... uninstall the sound driver completly restart the machine and reinstall the newer.. compatible version of the sound driver..(are you on vista sp2?)
Did the sound stopped by itself?

Not to be too simple, but run system restore and see if it works.

Please go to start type Device Manager, expand the sound, video and game controllers (+) Take a capture with snipping tool and let us see what you have there. To upload it you click the paperclip, browse to your snip, click the upload button and when it's done close the box.
Next time please start your own thread as I thought I was still dealing with Strangerd the OP

Did you download the driver from a link on this site?
The last driver from Realtek I had needed to be run twice.
The first time it uninstalled the old and asked for a reboot.
Once the computer had finished starting I ran it again and did the install with another reboot after.
