I Click Home To Much
Vista Guru
OK, so I finally said the heck with it.. and I disabled the UAC.. becuase it's very very irritating for it to stop EVERYTHING I do on my system..

But, every single time I restart my Machine I get the little popup, and the notification that it's been changed and the little RED X warning in system tray. I don't like seein a bad mark when nothing is wrong.. so I went into the setting and found a place where I could click do not notify, but show Icon.. so now the popup is gone, but it's still there.. is there ANY way I can completely get rid of it so It doesn't bother me every singe time I restart my system... just a thought.. let me kno please.

thanks in advanced.

Hello,
If you found the place where you "could click do not notify, but show icon ", then perhaps you go back to that screen and read further. The answer is there.

You just disabled 80% of your system security and severely added to the attack surface of your machine and you dont think this is wrong??

Dont come crying when you get a virus or malicious code from IE causing your computer to fail...

On a lesser note disabling UAC also makes your boot-time longer.

Really.. is it that big od a deal to disable it.. None of the other OS systems had it, or did they. (or is that why vista is "BetteR".. everything I do I have to hit ok on.. it's irritating.. and Isn't that what I virus Protection is for.. to stop that stuff..

Or is it really that helpful to have on.. if it's that big of a deal i gues i can turn it back on.. but it just was getting annoying. and I heard it makes the Boot time slower to have it on.. lol.

ya I see now where I missed the step. I think thats cuz it said not recommended on that step. so I did the other one.. do you have it on or off brink?

I have UAC turned on with the Security Center fully enabled. UAC can be a bit annoying sometimes, but I try so many different unknown programs and things that it is worth the extra protection from them and me. ;) LOL

Plus, having UAC turned off can sometimes cause compatibility issues with some older programs.

It's your choice though on what makes it work better for you. If you turn it off, be sure to have a good antivirus (Avast), firewall (Comodo), and anti spyware/adware (Spybot S&D) program installed to help keep the computer clean.

I have UAC turned off. It was really very annoying stopping everything to ask me twice if I was sure I wanted to do what I wanted to do. But hey, everybody has their personal preference. I run Window's Firewall, Defender, Nod32 as my AV, and browse with Firefox and I've have never had a problem with any viruses or malicious codes.

Hi Spd2Last
My only recommendation is that you disable the Windows Firewall, which is about as useless as they come. It scored an "impressive" 0 out of a possible 9625 points at the Matousec Firewall tests first go-round, and a meager 5% in the latest testing round. Matousec is the most comprehensive testing for available Windows Firewall ever done. Matousec Firewall Tests
Dump Windows and get Comodo Firewall Pro which is free and the #1 ranked Windows Firewall, and I'd say you're looking OK from there. NOD32 is my #1 choice as well...there just isn't better out there.

I see very well both sides of the UAC argument, both have merit in their own ways. For the average user with multiple users accessing a single machine, I say UAC is pretty much a must there. But for the Intermediate & Advanced users with high security knowledge, safe computing practices and the only user accessing the machine, UAC can safely be turned off but the other main security s'ware must be configured properly and be top shelf stuff.
IMHO...

Well, I really don't need a software firewall, but I have Window's up and running. Reason being that I'm, behind a router. Nothing better than hardware firewall :)
But I had installed Comodo Firewall in another computer and that program was very good, so whoever is looking for a good free firewall, Comodo is the one.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Ah...yes ;)
Hopefully your router config allows you to create advanced rule sets also. I know some folks who couldn't do that with their routers also ran a software firewall just for that option.
Take Care, good luck!
