Mcafee Problem

I just bought a new puter with Vista Home Prem 64bit. Mcafee suite was installed with 2 years of free service. I used the virtual technician to indicate if everything was working properly. To my surprise there is one error "Process not working"
It indicated that C:\programfiles (X86)\mcafee|virusscan|Mcshield.exe was not working. Does anyone know of a way to correct the problem
Is this inidcation just a misdiagnosis from the Virtual Technician because it is set for 32bit?
If this indication is correct, do I have real time virus scan protection?
Customer support was of no help. I have reinstalled and the same error shows.
Any help will be appreciated.

Hi rich,

You can check the security center in the control panel and see if it says real time is on. You can also run a system health report and it should say if it's running right or not.

I would suggest a repair install of mcafee if possible in programs and features in control panel. You can run SFC to see if it's some missing/corrupt windows system files causing the error.

Or try running it in compatibility mode.

Thanks for everyone's help. Red Dawn, your answer in particular relieved my concern. What good is a security suite, if it does not protect against Virus infection. My initial thought was that because I have a 64bit OS, the antivirus software included with the puter, in reality, did not function as a virus safeguard. I even called Mcafee support. All I got for my hour on the phone were instructions on how to diagnosis and correct the problem, of course, to no avail.

Once again, thanks to everyone for your help and a Happy New Year to all the members of this forum.

Just get rid of mcafee and download Avast home. It's free and works beautifully with vista.
