Windows Defender & Windows Vista x64

Got the final notice no more support or updates for Windows Vista. I'm running Windows Vista x64 Ultimate.

So I uninstalled MSE and installed Panda for some sort of virus protection and still using the Windows Firewall.

Apparently Windows Defender will run however it isn't able to update at all, just hangs after attempting an update. Perhaps it's able to use earlier virus definitions when performing a scan?

Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1600.0
Engine Version: 1.1.13601.0
Definition Version: 1.239.1256.0

So I'm suppose to exit Windows Defender and forget about it? AFAIK there are no more updates for Windows Defender under Vista either from Windows Defender or from a stand-a-lone update.

Or occasionally use Windows Defender to scan the computer using older virus definitions?
