Best Vista 64 Bit Anti Spyware

Hi as you all know there is not much compatible software atm especially for security.

I just found out that one of the top anti spyware has support for 64 bit Vista !!

Sunbelt Software is pleased to announce that CounterSpy 2.5 RC (build 1027) is now available for download:

Code:
http://www.sunbelt-software.com/spyware/CounterSpy/CSC.2.5.1027.0.exe

System Requirements

- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher
- IBM Compatible 400MHZ Computer with at least 128MB of RAM
- Windows 2000 Pro SP3 or greater, Windows XP (Pro, Home, Tablet, or Media), Windows 2003 Server (incl. SP1), Windows Vista 32-bit or 64-bit
- 200MB of available free space on your hard drive

CounterSpy 2.5 is not supported on the following platforms:

* Windows 95, 98, 98 SE, ME
* Windows NT 4.0 (or earlier)
* Windows 2000 Server
* Windows XP 64-bit

Installation

CSC 2.5.1027 can be installed over the top of an existing 2.1 or 1.5 installation to upgrade those installs to 2.5.

If you have experienced issues with your currently installed version of CounterSpy, however, we recommend a clean install. To perform a clean install of 2.5, uninstall your current version of CounterSpy from Add/Remove Programs (in the Control Panel) and reboot. Optionally, you may want to clean your system of any remaining traces of that earlier install by following these manual removal instructions:

Code:
http://beta.sunbelt-software.com/viewtopic.php?t=3736

Registration Keys

CSC 2.5 will accept and use your current CounterSpy registration key.

Sunbelt will not be issuing a special beta key for CSC 2.5 RC as we did with CSC 2.0/2.1.

Definition Updates

Starting with the definitions released later this evening, CSC 2.5 will be able to pull down new definitions through the program's automatic update facility. CSC 2.5 is also capable of performing full or incremental updates, just like the earlier 2.1 version.

The base IDX definitions file used for CSC 2.5 is the same as that used for 2.1, thus users can manually update their base definitions using the defs file available for download from these forums:

Code:
http://beta.sunbelt-software.com/viewtopic.php?t=4390

CSC 2.1 and 2.5 do use different VIPRE detections. The only way to update VIPRE detections (which are not stored in the main IDX file) is to use CounterSpy's auto-update facility, which automatically installs the latest VIPRE detections alongside the base IDX file.

Fixes & Features for CounterSpy 2.5

(9 May 2005)

- Add Vipre Caching to AP
- Upgrade Vipre engine to 2.0 (from 1.2)
- Allow installer to install on Windows 2003 (incl. SP1)
- Add support for Windows Vista 64-bit
- Add "File Size" to AP "More Info" digest
- Windows Defender: add UI control options (Vista only)
- Windows Defender: don't disable WD during install (XP & Vista)
- Fix potential bug with CreateEvent()
- Fix various AP & CS service bugs

Questions & Issues

Questions and issues surrounding CSC 2.5 should be posted to the appropriate beta forum. If you are experiencing problems, please provide us a detailed description of the problem as well as information about:

- your PC's main hardware

- your version and service pack level of Windows

- other significant software running in the background (esp. other anti-malware software)

I always used SpySweeper(w/XP) until i switched to Vista X64,64-bit support seems to be broken for Spy Sweeper and i think ill give this one a Go.

Will report back later with my Impressions :)
Thank You for the Info Moogle Stiltzkin.

Np.

Well so far i've used spybot search & destroy, lavaost adaware, Spysweeper, Spyware Doctor, and Counterspy.

Counterspy is good :] most especially since it supports vista 64 bit now hehe. ( this is the beta by the way )

My Computer

Benn using Counterspy for 3 years on my old XP rig. Best bang for the buck - and easy on the system resources - especially with dual/quad-core now.

Plan on getting Beta as soon as I get the rest of my Vista64 install up to speed.

My Computer

I used this under XP, despite all its claims I found it to be a resource hog.

I eventually uninstalled it, never dared try it under vista as it nearly destroyed my xp installation never had the courage to install it on vista.

I like Defender and AVG spyware

My Computer

Spybot 1.5.1, A-Squared and spyware terminator along with NOD32 is plenty. All on X64 Vista business and X64 Home Premium.

Is NOD32 antispyware? Thought it was just AntiVirus..I used to use Spyware Doctor before I got 64bit. Now I use Defender for 64bit, however once Spyware Doctor gets 64bit capability, then I will be switching back.

My Computer

I'm using CounterSpy version 2.5.1043 on a Vista Ultimate 64 operating system and like it but it doesn't provide protection for Mozilla Firefox browser.

My Computer

actually NOD32 version 3 now is true 64 bit. the newest version they just released has fixed most of the bugs that were in the early release of it. it also has anti spyware built into it

NOd32 smart security has been running in my 64 bit pc for 6 months now. It's extremely strong and I highly recommend it. It's anti spyware is great for recognizing threats with out having the definition already. Fire wall, anti spyware and anti virus all in one easy to use interface.
