This is seriously doing my head in.

I should have left alone the update...but hey ho you trust windows updates dont we!!....not any more

I believe my Nan is having the same problem Rich - After you install the service pack it will Update the Registry and then error on this exact point

Rich I am going to Restore it back to when my nan brought it but if you can think of anything then please say

Note   Note
Startup repair and System Restore are to no avail

Many Thanks,
Josh

Hello!

You will need to try Method Two here: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html

If you don't have a Windows DVD, you will need to make one using these instructions: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/141820-create-recovery-disc.html

This was quite a problem with Vista SP1. Unfortunately, there is no specific fix.

If System Restore doesn't work, we could try to revert the image, but that would leave the system in a very messy state.

We need to try System Restore.

However, Microsoft have taken measures. SP2 was a lot better, and functions of the new dism.exe on Windows 7 allow for easier image reverting.

The very best of luck with System Restore.

Richard

P.S. If System Restore is a success, do NOT try SP1 again, until I can assess your system! Thanks!

I ended up borrowing my friends windows disc and reinstalling from scratch yet again....just aswell my son had not put to much on his computer for his school work....I will not be installing sp1 again when the windows update shows up as too much hassle.....only prob is that to upgrade to sp2 you have to have sp1 so we will just have to just leave laptop as it is and ignore the sp1 update that shows up.
