2 odd files on desktop

Suddenly I have 2 "shaded" icons (system?) that I don´t recognise on my desktop, and I am a bit afraid to just delete them.

They are: desktop.ini with path C:\Users\Public\Public Desktop
desktop.ini with path C:\Users\Matthew\Desktop

I think they showed up after I did some maintenance on the computer. I´m ashamed to say I don´t remember exactly what.

Does anyone know if I can just delete them, or where should I move them to get them off my desktop?

They sound like they should be hidden files. I will get the tutrorial that will show you how to hide them again.
