a problem i think with Installing exe's

Hey guys, for 2 days iv been really pulling my hair out with why i cant install a exe file.. I remember installing Registy Mechanic before hand and if i remember rightly a year or so ago i did the same thing but for the life of me i cannot remember why or what i did to sort it out! I have looked everywhere to work out what is wrong with my system and i really cant work out whats happend..

This particular .exe file is for the sims 3 and when i try to click the .exe file it gives me this box with this information in it..

I'm not familiar with Registry Mechanic but sometimes those programs can do more harm than good, Just to be sure you might want to try this Tutorial,

Hi J (Ravvie),

This message you see is the standard help message you get if you enter an invalid command or /? into msiexec.exe. When you try to open the setup that requires msiexec.exe to run, the wrong command is given and msiexec.exe gives you a message explaining how to use it correctly. (msiexec.exe is the main executable of Windows Installer, so any Windows Installer .exe will not work correctly)

This is because a registry entry has become corrupted (which fits with Registry Mechanic causing the problem) If you were to go and correct this registry entry, your problem would be solved. For this reason, I doubt that "sfc /scannow" would work, though it is definitely worth a try.

I do not know off hand where this registry entry is located, however I will try and locate it for you. However what I would try is to reinstall Windows Installer 4.5 over the top and see if that repairs your registry key.

MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD THE CORRECT VERSION FOR YOUR SYSTEM!

If all else fails, you could try a System Restore or even a repair install of Vista, however I feel think this is necessary, at least not at the moment.

Please go to a tutorial by Brink here: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/233243-default-file-type-associations-restore.html and follow the instructions for the msi file extension, it may not work, but it is worth a try.

P.S. I know the extension you are using is .exe, so it may not help, however your .exe is working on Windows Installer so it is still worth a try.

Hey there fellas, id like to thank you all for the appreciated help! Sadly i got the hump with it and did a restore, managed to partition my HD and store what i still wanted on there any-ways! Its my first build so im learning as I go along you know

Also guys is there any kind of programs like registry mechanic that you can think of that would help with keeping my system tidy, i have that ashampoo auto defrag thing which i thinks pretty neat!

Hi,

Go and download Auslogics Disk Defragment and Registry Cleaner. On the front page of Auslogics, it looks as though everything is demoware, but click on products at the top and you will see that these 2 are completely free. There is also a good free registry defragment that I will come back to you on the name of.

i have also same problem but i fix it using tune up utilities.
try this :D
in tuneup utilities go to "Fix common problems" section there check
"The windows installer service cannot be accessed" follows the wizard & "restart "
the system.
