Adding Memory?

I had to change out my power supply, and I noticed two empty memory card slots,
not sure why two are black and two are blue?

But since I have three of these identical computers, can I pull two from another and add them?
What would it get me?
Are the slot colors an issue?

Hello Bill,

The colored slots represent channels. If you have say DDR2 dual channel RAM, then you would need to fill a channel (same colored slots) to have the RAM run in dual channel mode for better performance instead of single channel.

If all 4 RAM sticks are the exact same specs, then you're good to go to fill all 4 slots (both channels).

Brnk is correct on the coloring. If you have 2 slots in use then the color should match. Either use the blues or the black. As for upgrading that depends upon how much you already have, how much your motherboard supports, and keeping mind the limitation of 4 gb if using a 32-bit OS. If you already have 4 gb and the motherboard's max is 4 gb then any new ram won't be recognized.
