Hi all,

I've encountered the current problem:

Whenever I try to connect to a network the connection status says: 'unknown -the dependency service or group failed to start.' This is the first time this has happened.

I tried opening Event Viewer but the following message appears: 'Event log is unavailable. Verify that the service is running.'

So I ran 'sfc' via Command Prompt which outlined the following:

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6002]
Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Windows\system32>sfc

Microsoft (R) Windows (R) Resource Checker Version 6.0

pair

As far as I'm concerned all my applications are all opening, except for one HP HEALTH CHECK...
Also my USB printer connection is no longer recognized in the system or whenever I connect it to the laptop, which has only ever happened since this network connectivity issue has started.

Any solutions guys???

thanks in advance

My Computer

You haven't run an SFC command, to run a SFC command you need to:

1. Open the start menu and type cmd
2. Right click on cmd and select Run as Administrator
3. When command prompt opens, type the following (note the space between the c and then /)

sfc /scannow

Leave this to run and if it finds any Integrity Violations, then run it again twice and post back the results :)

Hi Tom, thanks for your reply :)

Turned on the laptop and was asked if I wanted perform a System Repair. After this finished I check to see if everything was back to normal, and thankfully it was!

I still ran sfc/scannow as you instructed and the result:

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6002]
Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Windows\system32>sfc/scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

C:\Windows\system32>

According to this I'm assuming there's no current threats.

Glad to hear that the problem has been resolved :)
