Audio in Vista is too Low

Hello,
Prior to installing Vista, Windows XP had drivers for my Conexant Sound Card but 3 days ago I installed Vista Ultimate and I can't seem to find drivers for my sound card , I used Everest Ultimate and it shows my Sound Card as Riptide Audio Device, the problem is that currently I'm making my speakers work on the onboard audio, But the output is too low since the speakers lack amplifiers. Can someone please tell me if my Sound Card Diver in XP would be compatible in Vista!!!


PS: I've tried Windows Update and It says that it couldn't find the drivers for my Sound Card.

Try installing the XP driver on Vista, you never know it might be compatible.

What model is the card?

I can't seem to find the XP Drivers, I've been searching Google for the past 5 days. I searched the XP Installation Disk but couldn't find them, although I did find a file named "riptide.hex" but Vista wouldn't install it, Dunno about the model of the card . Everest just shows it as Riptide Audio Device, I'll see if I can remove the card and then post back!

This says it's for W2000/XP, but who knows?

Is your Riptide a PCI card? Without having that card, it's impossible for me to test. Hopefully you may get lucky.

I know that when I used my Realtek AC97 onboard sound, the volume was low, even with powered amp/speakers. After switching to a Azuentech X-plosion Cinema 7.1, the volume increase was amazing. If all else fails, you may unfortunately have to buy a new card.

Hi,
I tried all the above links but no success I'm posting a screen shot of the Device Manager, it detects the Card as Multimedia Audio Controller, Didn't Conexant write any drivers for this Card????!!!

Sorry to hear you didn't have any success, I didn't think it was likely, but it was worth a shot.

Unfortunately, I can't tell much about your sound card from the image. Could you tell me what's in the Sound, Video and Game controllers tree. ie:

I'm pretty sure that the Riptide PCI Audio is a PCI card ie A physical card and the Connextant is your On-Board Audio.

On other note, you can safely disable/uninstall the Intel® 89215G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family on-board display adapter since your GeForce FX 5500 appears to be the card thats working.

You can try to match the vendor and device ID to the database here:
PCI Vendor and Device Lists

In device manager check the information tab for the device, open the hardware-id property and read it from there.

It'll look something like this:
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_1002&DEV_AA01&SUBSYS_00AA0100&REV_1000

VEN_xxxx = vendor ID
DEV_xxxx = device ID

Hi Sid, Unfortunately it's not looking to good for Vista drivers for the conextant/riptide. Just going by your PC specs, I'm guessing that card is relatively old and that no Vista drivers exist or ever will.

From the screenshot, it looks like Vista hasn't even detected a physical card. Have you tried Control Panel/Add hardware and pointing the install to where you know the drivers are? It's a long shot....

I can only assume you've already maxed out all the sound levels for the AC97? Right-Clicking volume icon/Playback devices/ac97**/properties/levels? Although from personal experience the AC97 output will always be on the quiet side.

That's a shame. Alot of the hardware listed there has links to drivers.

Hurray!!!!!

Today I brought home one of my friend's I-Ball Speakers and plugged it into the onboard Audio output, started one of my favorite songs , and Hallelujah the speakers came to life!!!!!! :D My ears were still ringing after I stopped the song!

So Finally, I can conclude that there are no Vista compatible drivers for my "Ancient" 9 yr old Sound Card.

The Solution : I'll have to buy myself a new set of speakers!!! , I'm guessing this will be the final upgrade for me in this year, since I'm completely changing the CPU to a more gaming suited one in 2009!!!!!
