Backup

I'm learning about backing up.

In location for backup I can select Recovery drive D or DVD RW DRIVE E. I chose Recovery Drive D.
1. If I have to restore, how do I get to backup on Recovery Drive D?

To restore I have to click Add Files or Add Folders.
2. Which do I click? (I also could click Search, which I'm not interested in now).

Never, ever use the Recovery Drive D:. This is your recovery partition where NOTHING should be written. I suggest you erase those files. DVD is not a good choice either, but it would work - somehow. The best is to use an external disk.
To restore, you have to go thru the wizard in Control Panel\System and Maintenance\Backup and Restore Center.

2. You suggested I erase those files: when I opened RECOVERY (D), a sources folder had a subfolder en-US (which was empty) and a Backup folder. Do I delete the sources folder, thereby deleting the Backup folder within? (As an alternative I could do system restore for the experience).

3. Why is DVD not a good location for backup?

1. D: is the default because on a genuine Microsoft edition, there is nothing on D: because you get the CD for recovery. But the OEM`s (HP, Dell, etc) decided to put the recovery file there from which you are supposed to burn the disk(s) yourself (I guess they are cheap).
2. I am not sure I understand what`s on your D:. Could you post a snip? When in doubt, don`t delete anything.
3. DVDs are messy. They have the tendency of getting lost and mixed up in their sequence. Plus they are very slow. An external disk is a much better (and in the long run cheaper) option.

In reference to posting a snip: I took a print screen of Recovery (D), saved it, and can send as an email attechment, but I would need your email address to email it to you. If you do not want to share your email address, I understand and will just skip sending the Print Screen to you.
