I was just on my pc surfing the internet, a pop up cam up and I just closed it. I was copying lots of files with teracopy to back them up from from my 2nd internal HDD to my external one, and I was uninstalling Nero 9 trial, when all of a sudden the blue screen of death popped up, I wasnt able to catch what was going on at the top as it was only on for about 6 seconds but it said something about kernel. My pc then restarted and now it gets as far as the boot screen and then goes to the Windows error recovery screen saying"windows failed to start. this may be caused by a new hardware or software instillation" or something like that, and it gives me the option to start windows normally or launch startup repair.

Things I've tried
~~~~~~~~~~
1. Starting Windows normally, just crashed again and brings me back to the same screen
2. Going into the system recovery.
-startup repair does nothing, it attemprs repairs, I click finish, it restarts, gets to boot screen and goes back to the windows error recovery screen.
-I tried an offline system restore from the system recovery page and it comes up with an error saying:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To perform an offline System Restore, you must specify which windows instillation you would like to restore.

For example, if the instillation located in "C:\Windows" should be restored, enter the following command:

rstrui.exe /OFFLINE:C:\Windows
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How can I put that command in? where do I go to input it :/
3. I tried booting from the windows vista disk ( that came with my pc from dell ) it freezes when I press enter on "Boot from USB or Onboard CD-ROM Device" or whatever it is, and nothing happens. So I went into setup and made that automatically the first thing it boots into and it stuck on the first screen where it lists my harddrives, and it just sat there flashing the white _ character on the bottom of the screen. ( I have tested the disk on another pc and it works fine)
4. I tried entering safe mode and last known good configuration and they both got to the boot screen and came back to the windows error recovery screen
I now do not know what to try, I dont want to completely restore the pc from an old backup (which I do in actual fact have, but on an external HD) or restore to factory defaults, as I am sure it cant be as serious as to require that, as I wasnt doing anything in particular at the time.
Recent programs installed:
Call of duty modern warfare 2 ( been running great on my system ) however it is the only game apart from GTA 4 that has made me ever here my fan work so hard and loud. I wasnt playing it at the time.
teracopy, to copy the files quicker as vista copying is soooo slow and I had alot to copy, it was copying some anime at the time.
