Solved cannot get rid program files

I have been trying to delete firefox and have been trying to gain controll of the file the program. I downloaded a take controll file from the forum, but it opens in notepad. Is there a way to make it open by something else other than notepad. I have not been too deep in vista yet only enough that I think it is not the most user friendly. Any help appreciated am at my end.

I have been having some funny happenings since i installed firefox and online armor. I have norton and twice I have had to remove and reinstall. I get ,ccSVchst.exe didnot start, when I boot up and I cannot open norton and several other programs. When I remove norton and reboot all comes up well then I reload and all is fine. Have run virus scans and negative. I have emsisoft as a malware and going to run it tonight on deep scan. I have tried to remove both online armor and firefox from the controll panel the normal way and nothing. When I go to the programs folder and try to run uninstall from there I get denied, windows cannot access path or do not have permission. I cannot even delete the files or the folders. I am at a standstill. I ran upon your programs to put take ownership on the context, and when I run them they are set to open with notepad. Nothing seems to work. Sorry about the book, any help appreciated.

You might see if doing a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before this started may help.

I would also recommend doing a full scan with Malwarebytes Free as well just to be safe.

Already done the malware scan. nothing. Hesitant to do a restore at this point. Is their a means to change the take ownership program I downloaded , to make take ownership appear in context, and change the execution of the file to other than notepad so I can run it?

I would recommend doing the system restore if that's an option for you. It'll hopefully fix it for you a lot quicker than trying to find an unknown cause.

Back up and punt again. Tried system restore vista went through its thing restarted and came back (system restore didnot complete susessfuly your computer system files and settings were not changed) details (unexpecified error occured). This system is the worst I have ever messed with. I am at the point now if wondering an update to windows 7 or 8 would be a shot. I am not sure that this system would let me do that either. Any suggestions ?

I'd at least give a clean install a try first.

You could try Uninstalling manually by finding the location of the firefox folder & deleting it then download this program called (Add Remove Program Cleaner) from Cnet Heres the Link Add Remove Program Cleaner - CNET Download.com this program will delete the firefox entry name in (Uninstall a program) & that should get rid it..

only use this Program if everything else you tryed has failed & its your last resort

I did some detective work and seems like firefox was not the culprit. All this started when I started to use the banking mode in online armor. I deleted all my domain entries for the banking mode and cleaned online armor up and as of this moment seems like I got whatever was bothering Vista. Will be able to tell in a few days if all is well. In the mean toime has anyone upgraded a dell xps 420 to windows 7 and if so what do you think of it. I appreciate the help on this problem and I hope it is gone. thanks again.

Problem appears to be in online armor banking mode. Cleaned up online armor and removed all the domain s in the banking mode and seems fine now.. Hope it lasts. Thanks for all the help.

The culprit seems to be online armor banking mode. When I put in standard mode and deleted and cleaned up the domains has been fine. Wlii let know if comes back.. Thanks for the help.
