Can't connect and save to passworded wireless connection

I can save and connect to the unpassworded connection. But I can't to the passworded one. It said access denied.

Windows Vista Home Basic 32bit

Are you able to provide a screenshot of the prompt? Also what are the share permissions set?

If you wish you may want to turn off password protected sharing however please understand that based on your share permissions it may not work.

Lastly, what are you putting into the username field as you will need to specify a computer name.

If I use the "Windows Automatically Search Wireless Networks", it asked the password again and again, seemed like I entered the password wrongly but it isn't.
I can't see the Password protected sharing because I can't connect to the network.

My apologies, I was thinking that this was an issue with sharing rather than connecting to a network.

You should be able to connect to the network with the password to begin with. As long as it is the same password as the one set on the router.

Also, are you using an Administrator account to complete such task? If not then this may well be the issue. Could you please temporarily enable the built-in Administrator account and try and complete it again.

Remember to disable the Administrator account after using it or at least set a password on it

I'm using an administrator account.
I've tried to set up the wireless network manually using the built-in administrator account but it's still the same,
Access is denied.

I've verified that I'm entering the right password for the settings. Now, I'm using different OS.

Hmm this is bizarre, Can you boot your machine into Safe mode with Networking and setup the wireless profile and post back the results. This will determine if their are any third party applications causing the issue.

Are you unable to connect to the Wifi normally rather than setting it up as unsecured then setting a password?

The Windows kept restarting during the boot of Safe Mode with Networking.
It stopped a few seconds at crcdisk.sys(something like that) and the computer restarted itself.

A bigger bizarre is happening.

I've managed to boot to the Safe Mode with Networking after a few times trying. I still can't connect and save the wireless network.

Are you unable to connect to the Wifi normally rather than setting it up as unsecured then setting a password?
I'm unable to connect to the wifi normally.

Connecting Normally:
1) Connecting taking a longer time than usual
2) Ask me to re-enter the password even though the password is correct

Connecting Manually:
1) Access is denied for passworded settings
2) Unpassworded profiles succesfully added

Yes, they can.
I've tried to reinstall the driver but it's still the same

Yes, I can access the internet when I made the router wifi settings without password.

Also, have you ever been able to connect to the network?
Yes, during the unsecured network and when I'm using the 3rd party wifi manager program Advanced WiFi-Manager by Nicomsoft without using the Windows WiFi settings(something like that), I can choose to use Vista Wifi settings or the software own wifi settings. I mean it's like when you choose to use the Windows settings, it will import all the profiles that I've saved.

Lastly, what is the make/model of the router as you may need to change some settings?
I don't think it's the router's fault because I can connect successfully using the 3rd party software without using the Vista WiFi settings.

I think this problem aroused during the year 2011, I don't know whether it happened after the windows update, but when I removed all the windows updates it won't solve the problem. Since then I'm not using wifi with vista.

I believe the Advanced WiFi-Manager is no longer available at the Nicomsoft web.
Here's the Nicomsoft software screenshots that I'm using:


Opening the software, it says disabling the Windows WiFi Service. Does that mean it doesn't even use any single configuration from Windows?


Connected to the network.


Closing the software, it asks whether to enable the Windows WiFi Service or not.

If I use other software that use the Windows WiFi Service such as NetSetMan it won't work.
The working software doesn't solve the Windows WiFi problems...

You are using a lot of third party applications which I am not familiar with and do not know what exactly they do and could very well be the cause of this mess.

If you can connect to the internet without a passphrase then to my knowledge the router you are connecting to does not need authentication therefore you should not be able to enter a password and upon doing so the router should reject it.

It may well be the routers fault since certain wireless settings (In particular channels and authentication methods) can have different affects.

I'm searching and using these 3rd party software after I got this WiFi problems so that I could get connected.

I can connect to the internet if I set the router wifi settings to be without password(No authentication). When I set the router wifi settings again to the authenticated settings such as WEP, WPA, WPA2, I cannot connect to it using this Vista but I can with other PC.

I can connect to the internet using other PC with or without password regarding the wifi settings of the router.

Do you know how to solve the saving wireless network profiles problem?
Do you have any other idea to solve this problem like reinstalling all the Vista networking components?

To be really honest, I do not have a clue why you are unable to make adjustments to your wireless profile(s) but am almost certain that it is a third party application or malware causing such issue. All I can suggest would be to complete either a clean install or maybe try a repair install to remove the possibility of file corruption being the issue. flush dns doesn't solve the problem.

You're not connected to a network so the IPconfig shows no information. If you are unable to get into safe mode with networking then please follow townsbg's post as well as run a full system scan with your A/V since your symptoms are pointing more towards a malware issue.

I'm able to get into the Safe Mode with Network now. I can't connect to the internet using that boot settings...
I've scan the computer using Comodo Internet Security and no virus detected.

Based upon your previous problem with the reboot I strongly suggest that you follow the diagnostic procedures because you could have a major problem.

A fresh reinstall of Vista fixed the problem of the network but for the sudden restart during boot still happening sometimes.

That is an indication that something is wrong with your hardware. Considering the error you got during safe mode boot up I suspect your hard drive. I suggest that you back up your stuff and replace your hard drive.
