computer won't start

I have a Dell Inspiron 531. some times it won't start. I have to cut the power at the source and start over . then I get the windows error recovery screen. sometimes it will start if I hit the start windows normaly option. . other times I have to go thru the start up repair. I have virus protection and scan regularly(if that makes any difference). then at other times it will not shut down and I have to cut the power to make it shut down. both of these events occur randomly, I can go a few weeks without problems then it is like almost every startup for a few days is a problem. any help would be great. thank you for your help.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Try starting in safe mode and see if it does it there also, then we need to narrow it down as far as what's wrong. Start here...
