Desperate for help!

I'm in desperate need of help with my vista. I'ts home premium, almost 90% sure it is. Anyways, I was on the comp about a week ago and I accidently clicked on an ad or something and it started a download so I stopped it about mid-way through when I noticed it. A few days later I turned my comp on and at the desktop the toobar at the bottom was like, POSSIBLE MALWARE DECTECTED. Then I was like oh s**t. So I quickly turned my comp off THINKING it was a good idea. But about two days ago, about a week after my last comp use I tried turning my comp on and I put in my password to login to my comp and what do ya' know? It's a black screen, then a message, WINDOWS EXPLORER HAS STOPPED WORKING. And it just gives me the option to cancel the message. Basically alls I can do is hit Control-Alt-Delete and shut the comp down. To be honest, I'm REALLY lucky it didn't effect my wireless router cause I just typed ALL of this fron my DSi so someone, ANYONE help me! I don't even care if I have to clear everything from my comp I just want it to turn on! Thank You for your time.

Try to boot up while hitting f8 (safe mode) if you can, try to do a system restore. If you can use this option, go back way before you noticed the problem.

If that does work use this list and try to get back to factory specs.

You will lose everything installed since you brought the computer home, restoring to factory specs.

After you try the System Restore, if it doesn't work, go back into Safe Mode and try a 2nd System Restore, setting the restore point back a little farther. You can repeat this several times, because whereas one or two attempts might fail, the third or fourth might work. I just had this SAME problem happen to me, literally less than an hour ago. I stoppped the download and shut off the system, and when I turned it back on, it was a nightmare. So in Safe Mode, I tried the first System Restore that was just supposed to undo the download -- but it didn't work. (And I could sort of tell it wasn't going to work because the System Restore process didn't seem long enough or complete enough.) Then, when the system rebooted and the nightmare continued, I shut down again, rebooted into Safe Mode, and did a 2nd System Restore, this time choosing the day before the previous System Restore date. This time it did work, thank God, and my system is pretty much back to normal. So the moral of the story is, don't give up after one failed System Restore attempt. It might still work, with earlier restore points. Good luck!
