Documents Folder and all the files are MIA

So, I'm not sure exactly what happened but as of right now I can not located the Documents folder...It used to be there but now its not. If I try to open a document, say from word or something like that, it'll tell me the file is not there bla bla bla. If I try to click on the link off of the "start" menu it asks me what software I want to use to open it...*blink* I poked around and located a File that is called "Documents" with 0 bytes...is there someway that I turned a Folder into a File? Any ideas of what I can try to restore the documents/file?

I did try doing a system restore from a few days ago but it keeps encountering errors...I'm not having much luck on the computer front this week.

Any advice anyone can provide would be much appreciated...I'm stumped.

You might see if using Method Three (step 2) can restore the C:\Users\(user name)\Documents folder for you afterwards.

Thanks for the super-speedy reply. I actually stumbled upon the tutorials after poking around a bit, I'm attempting them right now so hopefully they'll work. Will my missing documents return too or am I going to be out of luck?

They should if they have not been corrupted, and this is the only thing that is wrong with them not showing up.

I just tried following the instructions and restarted about 10 times and am having no luck. Its just so weird.

Just so you know, you can have files and folders that are documents - but in your case it is likely that it has merely been hidden, not lost completely.

Have you tried performing a search on your entire HD for a document that you know you have?

I have tried that as well. Although I'm not sure whats been going on with my lap top...I suspect mutiny. *lol*

I think I'll call it a night and do a few more restarts and start fresh tomorrow. Thank you for all your help.
