Download Speed Problem with FlashGet

Hi everyone.

I'm using Flashget and when I try to download (currently a .torrent file) the speed remains LESS THAN 1KB and the time Left is 00:00:00!!!!

Anyone else use FlashGet 1.9? When I was installing it I placed in another Drive (non-OS).

How can I optimize the settings to get the most out of my connection (512kbps)? I already have given it an exception from Windows Firewall.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

have you tried with another BitTorrent client to see if it is FlashGet or if it is simply that the torrents you're trying to get are not available?

I haven't tried any other yet.
Got any recommendations? I heard that uTorrent and Vuze (formerly Azereus) are the best. I'll try uTorrent first.

How do you check that? I'm new to these torrents and torrent-downloaders.

I don't know where that info would be found in Flashget, it's a download manager and I wouldn't expect it to be great for torrent usage (although it has the capability). In utorrent there are "seed" and "peer" columns to show how many are available and how many your are connected to.

But in order for your PC to see the torrents and the other way around and you are behind a router/hardware firewall then you have to forward ports to get connected.

...and then you need to configure uTorrent to work the best for your situation.

I got uTorrent 1.8 & PeerGuardian 2 (Beta for Vista).
I followed that great guide on AfterDawn.com (had to be changed slightly because the guide did not follow uTorrent 1.8 directly).
I only have one problem now: Portforwarding.
I clicked on your link (PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall) but my router isn't there (Arris Touchstone CM550 A/B Cable Modem).
Even so, I have noticed an improvement when downloading a random torrent (as a test).
I was just wondering, if I can get the router to forward a port, could my ISP disconect me from the internet (is it illegal)?. Again, I'm new to this stuff.

Your routers config should probably be close to the Arris TM552 ~ http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Arris/WTM552/Utorrent.htm

Most company's use a generic interface that is practicly identicle from model to model and usually only adds different features

As for port forwarding your router, could you post a screenshot of your port forward page after you've logged into your router config?

I was giving the wrong info! I do use the Arris Touchstone, but it is connected to a Wireless Router! Buffalo WHR-G-125!

Through PortForwarding, I was able to successfully set it up for uTorrent!
