Driver Autoinstall

I have had an issue with my Nvidia video driver acting weird when I shut down ever since I installed new drivers but I found that if I completely removed the drivers and manually reinstalled I fixed the issue. I then tried to update my Nvidia driver through Windows Update and the issue returned. So I tried to uninstall but, upon reboot, the same driver was auto-installed (if I'm not being clear this is the auto-install that show the icon in the taskbar with the spinning green ball around a hard disk). Is there any way to disable this so I can manually install the older driver?

Right-click "Computer" and select Properties.

Click the System Protection link at the left and OK any UAC prompt you may get.

Click the Hardware Tab

Click the Windows Update Driver Settings button

In there you can alter the way Windows Update behaves as regards drivers and hardware.

Do yourself a favor, stop getting driver updates through Windows Update, especially video card drivers. Either get them from your laptop manufacturer, or if you're up to it you can get them from here (check the site for how to install them),

Thanks whatever it was that I did worked. It ended up autoinstalling the original drivers this time and I was able to update on my own. I'm using HP's now but they are way old (167.xx) and I may go ahead and find a good laptopvideo2go one (I've used them but they never work quite right).
