Solved favorites folder and import problems

Well I looked back at the original post

and tried deleting one item from my c\user\PetrP\favs folder and it was also deleted from my explore\desktop\Peter P Green iconed favs folder with the star on it .

I also deleted one item from my C\User\PeterP \downloads favs folder and the same item was deleted from my Explore \Desktop\PeterP downloads favs folder. So we have estabilished that these two folders are identical and linked in different places.

Having fun yet.

Now the question is can I delete the entire Downloads \favs folder in either place and just leave the remaining Green Iconed favs folder with the star on it in both places?? Dangerous to try ??

Come on give it up . Is it dangerous to delete the downloads folders only?

I suspect that they are the same folder, but approached through different paths.
You can walk in the front door or the back door of your house, it's still just one house.

But they do not have th exact same info in them . The 2 different download folders might be one house and the plain favs folders be another?

If I delete the one in downloads will I lose the one in Green iconed Favs ? Should I try ??

How do I make a correct backup onto a flash drive. It was trying to import from a flash drive that I used export on my XP machine that started all this trouble > I got an invalid format file or something error.

Whats the best way to send to a hard drive Export directly out of IE 7 ?

I would just use Copy and Paste on the C:\Users\(user-name)\Favorites folder itself to back it up. If you need to restore it, you can then just copy the contents of the folder back into the C:\Users\(user-name)\Favorites folder on the computer.

Peter, just in case you are reading this, don't feel bad about all the questions.

I have, unfortunately used Vista for over a year and a half. Seldom used IE but Favorites were ok. Then, somehow IE 8 appeared on my computer even though I'd hidden it as an update. I uninstalled the update but my Favorites were everywhere, all messed up, and even my Bookmarks in Firefox were off. Trying to import from Firefox or sync via IE Pro only put duplicates of each link in the various duplicate folders.

This thread has helped me with all my duplicate folder!

This thread helped me immensly also. And I have me preferences set to receive emails for all replys to this thread so I stay in touch with all new info
