Hi,

today, when open my vista, before login, I got full of horizontal break lines in the screen. Do you think what is the problem and what I can do to fix it?

Thanks a lot for any suggestions.

My Computer

I think it may be connected to your graphics card or driver
Lets try this
Boot the computer in safe mode. If there is no problem, report back for further information on solving the problem
If the problem still exists, I would assume the problem is related to graphics card or driver.
Go to the website of your graphics card manufacturer and update driver

Thank you.

I have just tried to boot the computer in safe mode and found the problem still there.
Before I follow your second step, I am thinking what causes I need to update the driver? I have used my computer, with this driver, for a few years and got no problem., what causes I need to update the driver?

By the way, I have never clean my computer for a few years, do you think I can try to clean it, especially the graphics card? Perhaps you can tell me how to find the graphics card?

A driver may need replacement for several reasons,
One new software has caused the driver to become outdated
or
The driver has become corrupted. It is hard to say, why, sometimes they just stop working properly.
You may want to clean the inside of your computer, using canned air. It is simple to find out how, just Google.

Double check your cable is plugged in properly too.

I would open up the computer and clean it out as well.

However, this is typical symptoms of a dying card. Can you give your specs?

Thanks a lot for all your suggestions.
1. I have just updated the driver but the horizontal lines still there and all the icons on desktop are messed at the moment :)
2. I have checked all the cables are plugged in properly.
3. I am going to open the computer and clean it.
4. Before I thinking to buy a new computer, can you tell me what is "typical symptoms of a dying card" and what you mean by "give your specs"?

Give your specs means what is your computer rand and model?

The other one is, it is common for you to get those lines when your video card is starting to break.

You don't need a whole new computer, unless it is a laptop.

Don't know why, suddenly my problem disappeared! I did plugged all cables but don't know if that is the reason.....
If, as you said, my video card break latter, what I can do? I mean how to know what kind of video card I should buy?

Run a utility such as Belarc Advisor (Free) to give you a list of what components your machine is made up of. There are other ones which give a more thorough analysis but cost money, unless someone else can recommend something?

If everything is working again I wouldn't worry yourself about it right now, but the earlier suggestions of blowing the dust out using canned air are a good idea. Do it somewhere where the dust can escape because a lot of dust can acumulate inside any machine. If this is a laptop then professional cleaning is recommended. Although if it's a laptop it probably isn't necessary.

As far as your graphics card is concerned, unless you are a heavy gamer, it is unlikely the card will fail before the computer itself does. More likely failures would be hard drives and/or the power supply unit, they are usually the first to wear out. You probably fixed it by ensuring plugs are in firmly.
