Hi forum,
Has anyone noticed how atrocious this latest "improved" version of the above is ?
Maps are indistinct with whole sections of countries left in "undetailed" mode. Street View also shows a complete backward step with the little "cameras" that enabled one to proceed through the street completely missing. When you try to get 3D buildings into view the view reverts to street level with a view reminescent of a lunar landscape.
Is there any way one can revert back to the previous version which was excellent. Black marks,Google.

Do you have a system restore?
If you went with the new version recently, go back with restore.

Hi BluePeter,

Have you checked out Google Earth Pro (with a 7-day free trial during which you can cancel and pay nothing)? Perhaps the features you're used to having have been split and now you need to get the Pro version to have them. I'm not certain, but since the trial is free it's worth a shot to see if it's more like you're used to - and then you'll know that they changed things to convince people to buy the Pro version rather than use the freeware.

Richard already explained the easiest way of going back to the old version. If you have no restore points or don't have one old enough, then when you first installed Google Earth, did you download and save the file before you installed it? If so you may still have that version wherever you save your downloaded files (possibly Downloads). If so, then just uninstall the current version and then re-install the old version and you should be good to go.

If you don't have the old program, it may still be available from other sources online. I'm not certain, but the following may be the version prior to Version 6: Vista Google Earth by Google Inc. - FreeVistaFiles.com. If not, search Google or Bing and you may be able to find one somewhere.

This version is still in Beta, so parts might not yet be fully optimised/working.

I had not a restore point that far back. Did manage to locate the earlier 5 version and installed it but now there is a notification informing me to "use recent version 6 to continue with Google Earth"... stymied ! Dwarf, you say it all.. it is a Beta version( I hate all things Beta) and hopefully progress will be ongoing with it to improve it. But it is really awful compared to the earlier version.
