GPU Questions

Ok Before I buy my GPU I had a couple of questions...

I am thinking I will be using my Vizio 22" LCD FHDTV as my Monitor. It is basically a TV model (VO22L 10A LCD FHDTV)

I am seriously thinking about a nVidia gtx260 model card. I want to use the HDMI on the TV so what things do I need to do this?

My TV's user manual shows "computer support at 640x480/800x600/1024x768/1360x768/1920x1080 via VGA/HDMI" And how does sound work on these new cards? I know sound is not supported in DVI so with a DVI to HDMI connector I would still need sound some way or another.

My TV does have 1xSPDIF Output so I can not input SPDIF from video or sound card right?

so things I know I need:
1) DVI-HDMI Adapter

So if someone could let me know what I need to have to use this set up i appreciate it. i will probably start ordering later tonight.

First of all let me instruct you a bit on output formats and their uses.

DVI: full resolution digital output
HDMI: same resolution digital output as DVI... BUT it has an audio channel innit!

SOOOO... what you have to remember is, HDMI-in on your monitor is really only usefull if you want to hook up a 3rd gen console (xbox360, PS3) or blueray/hddvd player.

You should ALWAYS hook your monitor up to your COMPUTER using DVI.
Built-in speakers on HDMI monitors are CRAP and have POOR audio quality so you should always use a stand-alone speaker set that you hook up directly to your computer.

Well I have always neglected my sound options, and i may look into some mid range speaker set up soon but not right away.

So if i have a speaker set up all I need is DVI to HDMI adapter and sound will play through sound card to speakers in sync with video? Also may I ask, if I am not terribly concerned with ultimate sound quality at the moment, what are my options to use this TV as a monitor?

if you get a dvi to hdmi adapter (comes with most high end cards anyway) and hook your hdmi cable to the adapter you will have the video and audio synced because it will work the way it does with your current computer

Yeah I dont use this tv with current computer, I use it with another DVI monitor.

By the way regarding your SPDIF output on your TV, you are correct.

the SPDIF out you can use to hook up speakers on your TV and instead of the audio coming from the TV speakers it will get sent through the SPDIF. You have to keep in mind that in order for this to work you have to hook your TV up with HDMI properly (DVI->HDMI will not work because it will only receive a video stream, not an audio stream) OR hook it up with seperate audio connector (if your TV has an analog audio-in)
