GTA IV Slow Graphics?

I recently took the time to play GTA IV on my PC, but I've run into a bit of a problem. Whenever I play the game, I get low FPS (Sometimes around 25), yet I exceed the recommended requirements. My drivers are also up to date, and I've applied patch 1.0.7.0! Any help?

I run the game on a 1680x1050 resolution, and all settings are at medium.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to it, I know its frustrating when you can't get a high framerate, but i've got a virtually identical system to yours and it runs exactly the same on mine, I believe the GPU could be a big factor in performance.

Actually, the game was very poorly optimized for the PC. It uses 1.5 MILLION kbs of my cpu when running. I have never encountered any program that has ever used as much of my CPU as GTA 4.

I think your issue is you older cpu.

I don't play gta but know its very cpu intense... Infact its a beast of a game.

Your also on the lower mid level of your gpu too.

Try lowering all your settings.... then see... Keep adding more to your settings till you find a good balance.

Even if I set the settings to low, I still don't get a satisfying performance. Also, my CPU is perfectly fine, and should be able to handle this game. I've run Crysis on my computer before, and it has run much better, at medium settings (1680x1050 resolution).

I've searched the net and a q6600 at 2.4 and a 295gtx... best card out 2yrs ago, it got between 24 and 50fps.

Cryisis and gta are 2 completely different games. Crysis was a bad program and very gpu dependant. GTA is a cpu/gpu intense game.

Your system is low end now. Your gpu is barely making it...

Just watched the benchmark video, one thing is clear, everything is on very high, for the q6600 is no easy feat, that's very smooth compared to the frame rates that me and mad are getting, ok yes, my GPU is old now but it's no slouch, GTA IV is optimised for multiple core CPU's so it should run smooth on Q6600 anyway :-)

That video is running a gtx295...... It was 2 gtx270's sqished together as 1 card. Its 5x better than a 240.

My point was/is even with the best card that was out there, They got frame rates abit more than he's reporting. So the cpu is holding back more than the gpu.

Every video with a 240 is running 10-30fps

He's perfectly in the normal range

Something a bit of over clocking won't solve ;-) if it's a CPU bottleneck, then if mad was to get an aftermarket cooler and over clock the processor to 3Ghz, that should halt the bottleneck :-)
